Rep Power: 2340 | | Hydro vs Soil
Okay everyone, I have been experimenting with hydro for a bit now.
My 1st attempt involved a femenized mazar seed and the hempy bucket method....well in one week I killed her! I cant tell you how upset I was that I wasted that good seed.
So my 2nd attempt still included the hempy bucket, I really wanted this method to work.
Rather than risking another good seed, I used a lowrider I got for free.
I changed my approach, and made it to 2 weeks. Than it too died.
So now I wanted a "better way" I went dwc, in a system I made myself, its rather easy. I am still using the lowriders as my confidence level is pretty low now after having killed two babies.
I have no PPM meter to use, just some common sense.
I planted some low riders outside at the same time to judge them fairly, I planted 5 in soil, and 2 in the bucket, one turned male, so I gently removed it and was left with one female in my dwc.
Now I am not a fan of lowriders seeds, but this isnt about the strain, its about gaining experience and having it work.
I am using foxfarm nutes.
The difference is night and day, I tell you!
The plants outside in soil, if I were to harvest them right now, would yeild between all the plants, maybe a roach, if I'm lucky!
Now the dwc plant, probaly has about an ounce on it, she has some beautiful large buds.
So far as lighting is concerned for the dwc grow, while it is in my grow room, and "near" my hps light, it really is not getting much of that light, I am mainly using 2 cfl lights for this grow.
I think the growth difference is amazing!

Rep Power: 167 | | I use both, Vid....Well at the moment I have no dwc grow going since the one I did have started showing tell-tale male signs. So I put the hit on him. But Im with you Vid...I love dwc. Im just so limited in my space I cant get much more going than 1 maybe 2 buckets....and thats pushing it. Its almost as easy as soil if (if you have no ppm meter like me). As you said common sense goes a long way. The growth rate is amazing...BUT as Ive yet to bring a plant to harvest in the bucket. Im not sure about the yield or smoke vs soil. But the ease and fast growth has convinced me to at least keep 1 bubbler going at all times. Great post, Brother. |

I do both, I noticed hydro looks better and grow quicker...real quick. I have not brought anything to harvest yet though. I have a bud who does hydro and I must say I think organic in soil tastes better. I'm still 50/50 with soil vs. hydro

Rep Power: 167 | | I think there is a diff in taste from hydro to soil....and from non-organic soil grows to organic grows. Going from a organic soil bud to hydro is shock to the tastebuds IMO. But I'll see how it goes when I do it for myself. Maybe the people I got the hydro from didnt something I wouldnt do. Im thinking of cutting out smoking and just eating my thc....that would solve that issue there now wouldnt it? | | The Following User Says Thank You to BloodShotI'z For This Useful Post: | |

rose, playing in dirt is lots of fun, i like growing in dirt after being hocked to E&F for last few years, i tried a bubbler system but it wasn't going well, similar to videos i would say and at the moment i stick to soil.
never the less i'm working on a new bubbler, but progress is soo slow:(

green nobody, I love playing in the dirt. I have two outdoor flower beds, (flowers, not pot) and one herb garden (parsley, sage, rosemary, peppermint, spearmint, chives, lemon balm) and a small vegatable garden too.
BUT, when I planted a seed in dirt and a seed in HYDRO, and two weeks later the dirt plants were skinny and 4 inches tall with 3 or 4 leaves and the HYDRO were bushy bushes a foot tall, well,,,,, I like the SPEED of HYDRO.

hydro vs. soil....
hydro wins :shoot:
edit: the first is the main cola of the hydro grow, the second is the same plant, (clone) grown in soil. same veg time.
the soil one, that's the entire plant (about 2.5' stem to tip); the hydro one, just one of many outstanding buds ;)

but it is lot of work for me since it is not a opption to buy a complet prebuild system and in addition i got trouble organizing all the stuff here around me without shopping on the web witch i fear and hate. so hopefully in a few weeks i'm ready to give it a new start. and then i come back for you to get it under control, so be warned

Favorite time is when I can grow outdoors (that one beautiful season). Nothing beats growing with mother nature at least where I am. The rest of the year I throw dirt clods around.

I suggest a home made 5 gallon bucket for anyone's first HYDRO DWC grow.

well the important thing to remember in hydro before the amount of nutes is the ph 5.8 to 6.1 is where mine do the best and hydro grow faster better and prduces more i used to dirt bag... and the taste is the same if you flush lol no difference just as smooth and sometimes even smoother and if you need help with hydro ask the hydor guys not the dirt farmers lol just kidding peace

I'm not ready to try hydro yet, but I eventually will. Heck, I have enough problems playing in the dirt. Would it help by growing something cheaper, say tomatoes, when you're first learning? Sure mj will want different nutes, but it seems you could get everything else adjusted on cheaper seeds.
Peace,

I totally understand growers that swear they will only do organic in soil, but damn I love hydroponics! Vegatables or the stuff that makes you veg, you can get the same quality but a lot more of it in much less time.
Yes Texas Liar, that's a good idea. You'll love having fresh vegies in Febuary that you grew yourself.
