I've heard that 1/8th inch around is how thick you would want the branch you are cloning to be, but I think I've done a little smaller than that. As long as the stem is sturdy enough to put into the rapid rooter cube than you should be cool I think.

Id say my plants are bout as big as the ones in your sig trace- How old were they... Were they bigger/smaller than that when yoou took your cuttings?
Now Tracey, We are NOT in competition Girl! I have beeen known to achieve anything I set my mind too ya know... Not expecting THE BEST results but hey... I did harvest over 8 oz DRY on just 1 plant my vigin grow I got aprox 14 OZ DRY smoke TOTAL my first VIRGIN GROW so I exceeded by FAR my WILDEST EXPECTATIONS! Not trying to boast or anything...OOHHH HELL YEAH IM BRAGGING- I cant do that in the real world! My 8OZ Super Silver was unbelievable though, and I think it was more a once in a lifetime thing rather than what to expect from ALL plants Hubs thinks I will out-do my last grow this time...Im not so sure about that? I dont think we'll see another 8 ozer anytime soon? (Unless we try another SuperSilver and give her the room to herself?)

If i remember rightly they were about 5 weeks maybe 6 in the sig and i musta took the clones right about then but i think i coulda done it sooner and been fine......with hindsight i think i cut them way too big....next time i'd do them a lot smaller....if you look in my journal j posted pics of her clone cuts and they were much smaller than mine....

I personally start cloning at around 6-8 weeks of age since they are sexually mature by this point...Atleast that is what I was taught...But I have seen someone top a 2 week old and succesfully get the single node cut rooted
I wish you luck =)
Happy Growing

5th set of nodes is the rule of thumb for cloneing.hope this helps!also clones taken from the bottom are quickest to root.

Yours will be fine, JG. Some of mine are small too. and they seem fine so far. Sometimes the smaller they are the more they are actively growing so they seem to do well. Good job girl!

I always make sure there's at least 3 nodes from the branch I'm taking it from. The bottom set of fan leaves on the branch are then ripped off.
I agree with operator that the branches should be as thick as possible. I've cloned branches that are really thin, and it works, but it's almost as if it didn't have the original plants chi and had to grow it's own. (ie took a lot longer to grow).

I was just reading an interesting article in the December '09 issue of HT, that talked about a cloning technique called tissue culture. Using this method you can clone a plant from a real small piece of plant tissue.

Rep Power: 91 | | I tried it out, on some VERY SMALL clippings/cuttings. They were only 2 nodes, and about an inch and 1/2 long shoots. I just snipped the shoot from the main branch, dipped it in rooting powder, and stuck it into a jiffy puck. The only thing sticking up out of the pucks were the 2 top leaves. They were SOOO Small, but THEY ROOTED! Actually they rooted in the same amount of time as some other bigger cuttings. They are growing VER WELL now, they are still only about 2 1/2 inches tall, but they are BUSHY with like 3-4 nodes now. I will try to get a pict up as she is SOOO cute! So I guess it dont matter how small the cutting? Just that you have enough sticking out of the top of your puck/cube to continue growing?
