Ok, so when you have been growing for a while, and getting different strains from trades and buys from clubs and independent medical farmers, you grow out a lot of strains, or at least you have the oppertunity to.

Well I take that opp when i get it and I have grown out many many mnay strains, i have seen a lot of phenos. Unfourtunately one of these strains was a hermie...

so I need someone to have a lil chat with me about hermies, someone who has dealt with this issue before. About a year ago I recieved a strain that was infected with a little hermie in it.

Everyone always says pull em, kill em, rip em up.... but i know this is hype and hear say. Let me explain....

Every plant, seed, clone, that is carrying a hermie trait does not mean it contains the same amount of that trait in every plant. I have seen hermies with full on clusters of male flowers on the internet, and i have seen hermies that spit a few balls here and there througout the grow, such as the one I have.

Last grow i grew out a hermie into the dankest weed I have ever grown. Ever. I just picked off the balls when i seen em before they turned into bananas. Still, I ended up with a few seeded nugs on the bottom because sometimes the balls will grow where you can see, like inside a nug. But the seeds were nice plump tiger striped beans.

Normally theese seeds would be useless, but if you were able to smell and taste this bud, wow... this pic does it no justice because you cant smell it from a mile away but look.....

these pics do no justice, the stone was just unbelievable. Ive grown out buds to look a little better but not as potent. I dont know what the hell did it, im thinking that plucking them balls off created such a perfect level of stress on the plant to develop such rich turpines and trichomes. So i held onto the seeds.

Well here I am with 2 just going into flowering and i can see where the tiny balls are starting to develop. Im going to start picking them off when they get a little bigger but this time im nervous....

I have both of these plants in a dual tub deep water culture system on a timed pump wich causes the water level to rise and fall constantly to achieve the perfect air/water ratio. 8 plants in all in this system but whats different this time is sitting right next to them in the second tub, 2 dank azz jack the rippers and 2 of this years cannabis cup winner super lemon haze. I have seen the lemon haze dried and cured and smoked it and its seriously something not to take for granted. deff a charm. So im really nervous about these hermies sitting next to them, the tanks cant be seperated because they are both on the same plumbing and both feed off the same resivor wich holds the water when both tubs water levels go down.

So i guess im just nervous and want to hear from anyone else that has grown out, or attempted to grow out a hermie, how it was, what happened, and what do you think of my situation? Even if you have not had the first hand experience with hermie, but know your sh!t, i'd like to hear from you as well. thanks guys!!! STAY GREEN!!

Once I had a plant starting to grow male flowers. Everyday I checked every inch of that plant with a magnifing glass, when I saw one of those little bananas, id grab it with some tweezrs and yank it out. WELL when the plant was ripe (amber trics) I harvested it Their was 5 seeds on the plant. The plant that was next to it also had 5 seeds. I germed all ten, only 3 germed out of those only one grew, then that one died from mites. The next time I had a hermi I didnt catch it and the plant next to it was covered with seeds. The hermi pot was still very good ,but the seeds suck, and they were too small to grow , I didnt know they were there untill after I harvested.

I've got good news and bad news for you, deep[H2O]culture:
Good News: all hermie seeds produce female plants.
Bad News: unless the plant that is going hermie on you was deeply stressed, all the children will also be hermies.
My suggestion is to not grow any more of those seeds; otherwise the trait will continue to spread.

I was under the impression that the pollen in the little banana that hermies produce would make all female seeds. Is that not true?

yes, they will make female seeds that hermie as well.

I have had one hermie that I did the same to, and she was fine. I think I got a few seeds, like 3, but the smoke was awesome....

It is indeed a gamble. You must be vigilant and check every day. everywhere. especaially low on the plant.

I had my first grow hermie on me due to light leakage into my flower cabinet. Live and Learn. I have a slew of the seeds from the plants, and actually germinated a few of them and put them outdoors as an experiment. Should I cull these now if they are only going to hermie anyway? I also have two in my veg cabinet that I was using to just try stuff on.. king of like a mad scientist. lol. I.. have been topping one, and leaving the other as is to see how they differ.. stuff like that. I am guessing it would be a really bad idea to put these in flower anywhere around my current grow?

Yup, you are right....some growers do grow them out, but you really have to watch them, and check often.

do seeds from hermaphrodites always produce hermaphrodites? if you started to grow seeds from one could you tell if it was a hermaphrodite early on if you switch to 12/12?

no, but they will hermie easier. Some will indeed be just female. No telling when the nads will pop though, so it is a trial and error thing. If you do not mind seeds, then try it.

IMO - from what ive read hermies permiate hermies and from experience growing out a hermie and trying hard to nip all the male sacks did not work well and we all know that thc production slows when seeds develop , after further investigating i read that male pollen sacks grow inside the formed bud as well and are unreachable , the smoke was good but not great .
