I'm growing a couple males for pollen. A few balls have dropped off, some by themselves and some by being shaken. One split open and the pollen came out, I'm guessing it's OK. Will the pollen in the others ever be viable? Any help on collecting pollen is welcome. I've got the boys in a panda film "room" in the garage so they don't pollinate both my girls upstairs. Their "room" is also lined with 3 mill clear plastic, some waxtex under the guys, and paper plates directly under them to collect anything. I am concerned with the soil staying too moist with the paper plates effectively sealing it...

yes that pollen is viable.. let it dry and store it in a cool dry place.. but it doesnt store for very long.. at least not in my experience

Best way to store it is in the freezer. It tends to go mouldy fast, just like flowers do if too moist.

Just passing info...the dropped balls eventually did mature and spit their pollen out. I've saved some that were a bit immature when the boys died. Just as the female continually produces more bud sites, the male continually produces new pollen sacs, and many are in different states of maturity when the males died. I have no idea if any of these will ever produce viable pollen, but I've saved it in the freezer for later.
