High hazydays..
I'm having some similar problems (on a much smaller scale), so I'm not the best to answer your question
but I'm thinking that if you want a good answer, you might provide other important facts.
Light size?
5 feet tall.. how old are they?
are they in bloom now?
what strain?
soil? HempyBuckets? Coco?, etc..
Without this information, you might as well be asking: how big is big? LOL!
Thanks for the question though..

They wont kill themselfs, they stop growing when root bound.if you are going to flower them Put them in 5 gal buckets and flower. They were your mums and gave you clones, give them a good finish let them spred the roots alittle. peace

pot them up to 7 gal pots, let them get over transplant stress for at least 5 days, and then flower them. If you try to flower a large plant in too small of a pot it will not produce a maximal amount of herb. It will also need to be watered everyday, maybe even twice a day if its REALLY bad.

you could transplant them, what may happen is the rootball wont be big enough to successfully feed the buds. a bigger bucket is definately in order.
you could also trim it down and flower it. thereby getting more clones from it.

my plants live there entire life in a 6 inch pot. i might also add that im a sog grower. i flower my plants at 12 inches. reason is two fold, oregon law says that any plant over 12 inches is considered a mature plant, flowers or not. my cycle is shorter, at 10 week flower cycle(sweet tooth barneys farm) i harvest every 3.5 months. i also cycle my plants in. im cutting somnething every three weeks. it all boils down to how you grow. i could not grow trees in 6 inch pots. the way i do it works for me.

I have found 6 litre / 1.3 gallon pots work well, like madmax I don't want huge plants. 5 feet with nicley spaced nodes, and in 3 ltr pots 3 - 4 feet. Have to keep on top of water and food, natural light is so variable. If it is very hot small pots can dry out surprisingly fast. Generally they seemed happy enough and flower well. They have have to like it, I have no more space. |

I'm running a micro grow in 20oz cups right now. I don't have much space and if they were in anything bigger than this, my cab door wouldn't shut lol They stay small which is what I need. But if I had room, I would go for a 2 gallon pot in the end.
