Default Advanced Techniques - separating fact from opinion

What advanced techniques produce reliable results?

I guess many of us are guilty of passing on something we read or heard (from a reliable source) as true knowledge....and we can be forgiven this semi-sin because none of us have time to learn everything though experience.

Yet this passing on of cannibus culture is likely to pass on superstition as fact...consider the idea that plants need to be hung upside down when curing....my dad swore by it, but most people disagree now a day...

the solution (partial)
The Double Blind Study
to do a double blind study we need
  • two variables we want to examine in relation to each other...example will LED lights of equal lumens match the quality of HPS for flowering....each variable must be measurable....lumens can be measured by a light meter.....quality can be measured by a taste/smoke test
  • To identical sets of conditions must be carefully set up...temp humidity strain air flow etc....everything except LED and HPS must be exactly the same...hard to do
  • The cured bud must secretly identified as LED or HPS and passed on the someone that does not know which is which...they just think it is A and B
  • That person must have a large group judge A and B for what every we consider quality...taste, smell, high, apearance....etc.
  • tests should be done independently so that people are not influenced by each other
  • The judgement of the large group must be tallied and given to the orginal person to see if LED and HPS show any qualitative or quantitative differences
  • Can these results be replicated by others? if so we now have a scientific fact rather than opinion
NOT MUCH FUN....so I am just willing to trust growers that seem sane and have good results....plus I like to believe in a little magic, my life works better when I do

leds with the same lumens as hps? that'd be a hell of a lot of leds and yeah in my opinion would sloughter the HID but and its a big but you need some sick LEDs these are wrong spectrum but 75 lumens per watt Powerful Little Light: LED With 1,000 Lumens
i believe coloured leds are much dimmer and thats what we want blue and red 450 and 650nm i was very interested in the LEDs and still am but cost has blew it out of the window ideally all 4 walls and ceiling of a cab should be covered in red and blue LEDs i was workin it out and wouldve cost hundreds to get the same result as a 250 hps in my cab so i ****ed the idea off hopefully some one will make some cheap highoutput coloured LEDs in the near future till then its still HID for the ganja growers

actually, i don't want to see the price tag of those but judging by the price of similar but weaker LED i wouldn't invest in those yet (calculated something like 20,000 bucks to match the output of my 400W HPS) never the less, interesting article for an appetizer

Sorry for hijacking Scott, great reminder of what it takes to gain conclusive data, but such high standards are hard to keep since we face the daily problems of prohibition still.
besides that, hanging the buds upside down for curring - didn't you mean drying since curring buds is usually done in jars or similar? simply never heard off that this concept before Scott and they had to have some reason to do so i would like to know now

Please feel free to hijack any of my posts any time GN....yeah it is hard to get conclusive data but it may well be worth the trouble even in these unenlightened times of prohibition...also you are quite correct I should have used the term drying rather than curing. GS you seem to be making my point when you use the terms "in my opinion" and "I believe". Don't get me wrong, I don't think the scientific method is the only way of creating useful knowledge, but it does seem to be the only way to create useful technical knowledge that can be shared and used to get reliable results.
