| | | 12/12 from seed
i started reading about the 12/12 from seed idea a few weeks ago and from what everybody said had formed the opinion that it would make plants go really stretchy, little nodal growth and low yielding.
i had some thai haze x skunk (ths) seeds i got for free so i thought i would experiment with this method using two of them.
since ths reportedly takes 140 days to flower i assume its a hight yielder under optimum conditions and so is probably a good plant to try this method on.
if it doesnt work its no big loss, i have other plants and will have many more, the only expense is a wee bit of space under my lights and a few quids worth of nutes and compost.
the first thing i have noticed about this method on these plants as that it actually slows their stretch compared to other plants of the same strain.
also the nodal growth seems slightly improved and the leaves are a slightly darker colour again compared to other ths.

Where did you get 140 days to flower from? The info I see says, 9 weeks, that's like 65 days of flowering. Thai crossed with Skunk#1, this strain produces large THC covered buds with a heady Thai scent and flavor. The smoke from this plant is exceptional in taste and high. The process to bring us this strain was long and hard so it is one to appreciate. 10 seeds = 125.00
Indoor
Type : Sativa
Yield : up to 200 gram / square meter
Height : 120-130 cm
Climate : indoor
Flowering period 9 wk's |

Flowering period 9 wk's | well thats what i was told by some people on another forum and just from various posts on the net. i know the supplier claims they take 9 weeks but apparently they take much longer which is possibly why everybody is giving them away free over here.
i will be well pleased if they do only take nine weeks as i have a couple more on the go been vegging for a few weeks now and i will be putting them on 12/12 soon

I don't understand this 12/12 from seed it doesn't make sense.
Size does matter. From Grow Great Marijuana by Logan Edwards, "Regardless of day/night lengths, a plant is only able to produce flowers when it has attained the minimal vegetative size necessary to support the weight of the buds and a sufficient food reserve and supplying the supplying the considerable demands of reproductive organs. Most marijuana plants should be induced to flower no smaller then 6 inches, but the ideal size is between 1 and 2 feet tall for standard indoor growing."

hey mogie, starting the 12/12 from seed, just rushes the harvest, the second the minimal height is reached it starts to go into flower, granted it doesnt put off the best yield but it does work.

I've been growing using his methods now for a few months, and granted my first 4 all turned up to be boys, it was after I read his methods... I was 5 weeks too late, already had 2' plants, but all the other stuff he's doing has worked for me, so now I'm starting again with a half dozen, hoping for a female in the bunch... he states once the sugar leaves drop, 12/12...

Would this be a good technique for the Aerogarden?

The only reason to do 12/12 from seed, is if your ONLY space to grow (even seedlings) is your flower room (and has something flowering so it can't be changed from 12/12).
You will not be able to harvest any earlier by doing 12/12 from seed. Your harvest will be diminished, and your time will be equal, making your yield per day worse. Much worse.
18 or more hours of light per day until the plant is at least 6 weeks old will flower at the same time as 12/12 from seed. But the plant will be much more developed, and have a higher potential yield. I don't know of any plants that reach sexual maturity before 6 weeks, so you don't lose any time by vegging in a normal light scheme for at least that long. Most plants will keep vegging for another couple weeks in the 12/12 before they start flowering, because they won't reach sexual maturity until 2+ months.

I am doing the 12/12 from seed using a 250 hps bulb and ionic boost and bloom nutrients, with a soil to hydro system. It has been 3 weeks today the plants are 6 inches tall and are already showing there sex. Out of 7 plants, only 2 where male, I got rid of them and my girls should be done in about 8 more weeks. so far this has been the fastest grow I have had.

I decided to go with the 18/6 light cycle with a bonsai technique. I wasn't looking for a quicker product, I was looking to get the biggest yield with the least amount of space. I think the bonsai will work better. |
