| | | Stairwell GrowRoom - Suggestions, Questions, Concerns
Hey guys, I'm hoping to get some questions answered in this thread.
I live in a 2-floor apartment. I'm on the lower floor, luckily, so I have a "store room" with the only key, under the stairwell.
So let's open the door and see what we're working with...
Here's the door open (excuse the mess, lol).
Obviously it'll be a little cleaner and all the junk will be on the right wall.
This won't be where I'm growing, it's the little corner around the back where I hope to be growing...
Here's the view of the left corner.
The ashblock is a good height reference.
It's about 50 cm's high (about a foot or so in height) so the total height should be about a metre and a bit high (4,5 feet high). I'm 6 foot tall and I gotta stoop pretty low to get baked in there, lol.
Full view of the wall.
Notice the hooks suspended from the roof for hanging lights, which is a bonus.
Here's where my questions come in:
Since I plan on growing indoors, I only want to grow one plant at a time. Space is limited so I want a plant that grows to be little shorter than 4 foot in height. Suggestions?
Concerns for ventilation are on my mind constantly...
There's about 5 feet of concrete around the room, it even knocks out cellphone signals, lol. Any suggestions on how I could get ventilation in there without raising suspicions?
Another thing I'd like to clarify is lighting.
I'd like this room to be a vegetative and flowering room from the flick of a switch. Are there any systems available that have the option of doing so?
Thanks alot in advance guys
Keep it green.
If you have any questions for me, feel free to ask. |

I had a few children under the stairs once...HEHEHE!!
Air is key if you can't find a way to keep it cool your out of luck..
For you light question all you need is a timer on a HPS to switch between veg/flower 18/6 to 12/12.

If you have any questions for me, feel free to ask. | that looks like a sweet little hideout for a grow room..nice potential i would think.
i would just take into account if there would be any reason for your neighbor upstairs to ever wander down there. Also, are you friendly with your nieghbor or is it a total stranger. Whats the temp like in there?
if all is good i would think you could put a 400 watt light system in there with a switchable ballast for MH and HPS or just get a conversion bulb. you have to consider the light will take up space so your not gunna be workin with much vertical for your plant. thats ok though you can always top it to make it very bushie.
im not so sure about ventilation down there.im pretty new to this as well but i would think you dont want any ducts running in or out of that door for security measures. you will need a fan in there to circulate air.
hope this helps a little

i would go to walmart and get a humidity temp guage for $8 and get a few readings throught the day and start from there and as far as venting you will have to vent into the room the door opens to through the door or leave door open with fan blowing in and any indica should be good for the room you have . and agreed with shaman a timer on the lights will switch you to flowering

Maybe, given the ventilation situation, you may want to consider going with cfl's.
Less heat, and they could be closer to the plant, height being an issue.

Answers the lighting and strains suggestions, thanks :D
I will take some temperature readings soon and get back to you guys on that...
Upon walking in there, the room is relatively cool, constantly...
I'm not sure about the humidity either, so I'll purchase a hygrometer to check that out...
Ice, the neighbour is a complete stranger, but like I said, I've got the only key to the room, so there's no getting in for her to steal my stash
For construction reasons, are there any suggestions the guru's could provide me with? ;)
Thanks again guys |

Are those the stairs up to the neighbour's place??
If so your going to have to think about odor control!!!

My dad can build an ozone generator for me though
EDIT: Also, the stairs that lead up to the second floor have an open-air balcony, so fresh air does come downstairs, which is kind of a plus...

Sorry but no ventilation plants will not grow they die.You have to have fresh air.If you can replace that door with a door that has vents in it top&bottom then you can grow in there. But you will have to have a carbon filter or everybody will smell it growing. You would be better off growing in a closet in the apt where you can vent it.PEACE

I should have added these two pictures too, but it was dark last night so, it was practically impossible to see what I was talking about...
Would this make a difference in anyway?
There's a draught that comes through, underneath the front door (shown in the first picture) and the balcony upstairs creates a nice, through breeze...
Dunno if it will make a difference?
EDIT: Would two oscillating fans also help in the potential room?

Although, the Po Po are just as corrupt, and I kinda live in the styx...
I think you are allowed a certain amount on you for personal use, IE: joint, but not in public...

sounds like you might have a lot of work to do to use that space. probably a better idea to just do it in your apartment
