I'm in the Seattle area of the Nation. I have an out building 10ft. by 12ft. in which I have a veg & clone box (3x4x8ft.) and a 4x4x7.5ft. Tent for flowering.
Finley to the question--- What type of insulation would be best? I've used the pink fiberglass with the foil back before but had problems with high humidity and moisture causing foil to de-laminate from the paper and eventually the paper tears through at the staples and the bats start falling down. I have 2x6 rafters set 16in. OC. I'm thinking rigid foam.
I know a de-humidifier will help with moisture, I just don't want to keep picking that pink fuzz outa' my hair. tia Always, father1

I would use bats, without the foil or paper backing. Then, cover the whole thing with plastic sheeting as a vapor barrier. The condensation won't get through to the bats.

Yes the plastic is a good choice.Homedepot has thermal board,it's silver and gray board about 3/16" thick. It will do the job for years.Hang the bats and cover it with the thermal board. You can cut the thermal board with a utility knife and nail it up with roofing nails. You wont have the insulation falling down anymore plus it will refect the light too. That will take care of it. Peace

Rep Power: 202 | | They do make enclosed batt insulation... It's more expensive but, it doesn't shed. Foam plank will work but, it's pretty expensive. Most importantly, you don't want fiberglass hairs blowing around, that's a health hazard. Good luck and good growing. | | The Following 2 Users Say Thank You to Zigzagman For This Useful Post: | |

Thank you to you all, still learning the whole posting message board thing. I really like the paperless bats idea coupled with the thermal board should more than do the trick.
Thanx again, father1

Oh Great!!!!!!!! When I was 16yrs I worked in a plant that manufactured and packaged those paper back bats, they never told us that there was any problem with it!!!!! All they did was suggest you not take a HOT shower after work??? (The heat opens the pours of your skin and the fibers get in and make you itch more, or worse it'll get infected)
Thanx again tokecrazy,........ Can you remember a brand name on that thermal?
"Whatcha stuff" and or what the cost is?? Anyway, Tia Always, father1

Another quick question......How important is insulation on the walls? I'm worried about the roof because of ice and snow now that winter's so close. Veg is in a box (2x4's and sheet rock w\8, 4ft, t5's, flowering is in a 4x4 tent w\400 watt mhd). Last time it snowed the roof was steaming on the outside and raining inside (condensation) by insulating the walls too, I’m worried that I’ll loose the heat dissipation through the walls and require positive ventilation. I’m probably over thinking it though. Any thoughts or suggestions?

just did my 10x10 shed and I did the insulation like housing paper back shit.. I did that and after I put that in the walls i used the black tar paper that you use on your roof when you do your roof for more protection.. Then I put plywood up on the walls and painted them white that they use on mobile homes for the roof witch is a rubberised paint.. I have a 10x6 area for flowering.. I also have a cabinet on the wall where I put my clones in to get them to grow there roots then go into flower... If you want pixs or help plz let me know.. good luck

Thanx, no pics right now, working on it though. Right now I have a puddle on the floor dripping from the fresh air intake. Hot air out cold air in = WARM air & WATER. I think a dehumidifier will be the least stressful way to handle it. I really don't want to tear everything off the walls again if I don't have to. Mostly it's the steam wafting from the roof that concerns me. (bratty neighbor kids and the like) anyway give me a couple of days & I'll try to post some pics.
Thanx again, Always, father1
