Default Inline carbon filter?

i've run into a snag in my design. i need to both cool the 600w hood and vent/filter the room all in one duct. i will be using the Sun System Cool Sun reflector (600w) with one end open to the grow room to pull air into the reflector/start of the ducting. then through an inline carbon filter (which i can't find), finally to a vortex 4 inch 172 cfm fan venting to an interior wall (its a three story house on the first floor). this whole distance is less then five feet btw.
so my question is this are there inline carbon srubbers? or is this a diy project?
quick info on room: 34inches by 43inches by 10 feet (i have vaulted ceilings)
intake is from basement via bottom of interior wall, exhuast is at 6feet on same interior wall.

also i've been told that the vortex fan is fairly loud, anyone use one of these or know about them. sound is an issue for me, but not as much as clean fresh air coming out the closet into walls

Thank You in advance i've lurked here for awhile and know pearls of wisdom await me.

You can check out HidHut. I have also asked a few mods to drop by but you did catch us sleeping! LOL! Hold on someone of more tech skills will be by to give you a hand soon. Here is a link to HidHut our sponser, and they have can filters and different things that could be your answer. If you cannot find what you need, give them a call and ask for Justin He will advise you well and if you do order then, most likely get a better shipping cost to you when talking to him. Don't foreget to mention GreenPassion as we get credit for the site. Here is a link to their site.

I have a 172 vortex fan and its not that loud. With a TV or radio on you can barely hear it. I plan on sound proofing the room after this grow. My room is almost the same size as yours but with 8 foot ceilings. I have a variable speed control for the fan and running it on the lowest speed and working fine. In about the sixth week of flowering the "odor" became really bad! I just turned the fan on and it removed the odor. Also get some ona gel for outside of the room .

...are there inline carbon srubbers? or is this a diy project?

Unfortunately Hansle, I've just spent the last half hour searching my resources for an answer to your questions and it does appear that this is a DIY type of item. They are not expensive, and all parts can be obtained from HD, Lowes, or a heating/AC supply co. The last being the most expensive place to purchase this type of equipment. This link: DIY : 6in Carbon Scrubber : CBN - The Garden's Cure will give you the basic idea to construct this filter with pictures to make the construction easy. just make the size adjustments necessary for your ducting and ventilation type. As far as the Vortex fan being noisey?!?... Dunno, have never used one but I prolly need to get one since it gets mighty warm here in TX.

If you look at the bottom of this page, there are similiar posts listed that could give you a good idea about what to do. There are 5 listed there for you to start on. As far as a fan silencer, there is a great thread by tokecrazy that could answer all of this. I want to make this as well. i have a 6 in vortex and yes, I can here it everywhere. Yours is smaller, but using this design by toke will make it silent.

i do love diy projects and i always make work journals. i'm a bit of a dork though so i need to crunch some numbers on surface area and drag. i have two designs i'm thinking about. does anyone know how to measure cfm? ahh the science wheels are grinding in my head. when i get a chance i'll toss a few sketchs on here and get some more feed back.

thank you all very much, good luck and good night its my bed time.

If I get you right, you want the air to continue though a duct after it comes out of the filter.

The air exits the filter though the sides, so you would have to put the whole filter in some sort of container, with a flange for the exhaust side to enter the ducting again.

Or you could put your filter on the reflector, intake side, then go from there.

I have 4in and 6in Vortex fans, the 4 is not very loud, the 6 is.

Here's some better prices, this store is very hard to beat, I shop there in person.

yup thats the idea all in inside ducting. but there is sobering reality to why things don't already exist. its huge, i built a mock up out of cardboard. 8inch ducting just to get a 4 inch filter and the airflow is dodgy at best. there is also problem with contact time and surface area that would be hard to over come without a disproprotionatly large fan. so it is entirely possible, just not very realistic. this makes me sad to discover because a wonder plan drawn out.
