Rep Power: 30 | | how large a register vent for 2-6"fans+ 4" fan~C02 grow HELP!!!
i have a 6" fan that runs air through my hood and a 4" eco plus fan that pulls air in and a 6" booster fan that does the same. i have a 6" and 4" fan that draws hot air out of my room. i had planned on installing a 14" x 6" register vent but i wasn't sure if this was large enough. it seems like it would equate to only two and a half 6" round vents though and i thought i was supposed to have 2 times the size of the outlet vents. i don't have room for 4 6" vents and 2 4" vents though, that's why i bought the rectangular register. I can get a larger one but i would have to build the metal box that is the actual ducting behind it myself, out of poster board, because a large one is too expensive. can anyone give me some advice on how large an inlet i need for all these fans? thanks.

Can you tell me why you have so many fans? What size is your grow area, your light, how many plants will fit in there? I would also help if you could show us some pictures.
If you fill this form out, we can help you better. Don't worry about it all if you are not there yet, just what you know.

i don't have any plants right now. last grow didn't work so i'm taking my room apart. i was and prob. still will use hydro. i'm in a large closet, about 10ftx3ftx9ft high. i'm using a 400 hps and a few fluro fixtures for mothering and cloning.
i have a lot of fans because my room is or will be split in two with both sides segregated and getting their own ventilation because i'm using co2. so i have one fan dedicated to just cooling my bulb and then i have one fan that sucks out hot air from each side of my closet and then two small fans that pull air in to each side of my closet because i wasn't sure if just air pressure would be enough draw fresh air through my ducting and into my room(s). basically, i just have a fan blowing out and one sucking in for each side of my closet plus one for cooling my 400 watt bulb. my concern is being sure that my inlet is large enough to provide enough air for my two rooms. i imagine though, since i'm using fans to pull air in as well, it might not matter if i had exactly twice as much inlet as outlet. thanks.

Take a read through this link: The Knowledge Project~Air Exchange
Can you tell me what your temps are with your lights on at least? This is what is important, and will tell me more than anything else. You should light it all up, and see how the system works before putting in your plants. If your temps stay between 68f lights off and 78 during lights on, you should be good to go. Until you check all that, you won't know. If it is too hot, then we will help you with that. It could work. I will tell you though you will get better air exchange without fans at the bottom to add fresh air to the grow. The air will come into the grow at the same rate it goes out, pushed by your fans for your exhaust, especially with a closed system. This will cool better than having fans in the cool air vent.

right now with an uncooled 250 MH light running my closet gets up to 90 degrees. i'm drawing air from the inside of my hot house though to cool the room so it's not getting any cooler with the fan running so that's why i'm switching my inlet so that it's next to an open window. there's cool air outside at night and that's when i run my lights.
it would make things much easier if i could just have an open vent in each room where air came in instead of using fans but since i'm using co2, i thought i should use dampers and a fan to push air through the damper. thanks.

I haven't a clue about co2 grows. i will send over others that do.
If it is that hot in there, you have to cool it down before even starting. Even with co2 it will be too hot.

It Sounds Like Your Main Problem Is The Hot Ambient Air That You Are Pulling In To The Room, If It Is Already Hot???,,It Will Only Get Hotter, I Have Seen Grow That Use co2 Work Okay At Around 86*f. To 88*f., But Anything Hotter Then That You Will Be Wasting Energy. You Need To Get The Ambient Temp Down To Around 78*f. Then When You Pull It Through To Cool The Grow Area It Rises To 85*f+++Range You Will Be Okay, But If You Can't Get The Ambient Air Down, You Might Want To Wait Tell The Weather Cool's Off???
