Rep Power: 0 | | First cab build need some advice (pics)
Hey everyone,
Got a new cab from walmart looking to flower in the large half, and veg/clone and house mothers on the other side. It is my first grow so I'm going to be using soil but thinking of upgrading to an ebb and flow for my next grow. To veg i have six 24 watt daylight cfl's (need more?) to flower I was thinking a 400 watt hps (to hot?) anyways enough talk.
dimensions are; flower W 22" H 53" D 19"
veg half is the same with adjustable shelvs
Top section; W 46" H 13" D 19" #1.JPG #2.JPG
I was thinking of using the top part for the electronics and storage.
Any ideas are welcome, so far i have 2 comp fans for circulation but i dont know much about air movement so ideas welcome.
Thanks in advance

Howdy Buddha,
Cab looks good, should be able to do some nice work in there. The 6 24 watt CFLs will be fine while starting your plants. However, as the ladies grow you will need to add more. The more lumens the better. I started off with 6 for my closet grow and added more as the plants grew. You starting from seeds or clones? The 400 watt HPS would need a good amount of ventalation for such a small space. I have never used HPS before so I do not know if I am really qualified to answer that question, but from all that I've read you would need alot of ventilation cause those boys get hot. CFL's can be used for flowering aswell, dont generate nearlly as much power as the HPS but are cooler and more cost effective (they are what i use for veg and flower - 6000k for veg 2700k for flower). I have has great success with CFL's especially with a smaller area such as yours, the plants can still grow to the potential of the space with CFL's. Hope this helped in some way!
Hope All is Well

I think two 150w CFL's (as on the Hidhut site) would be perfect in that space...The 400w HPS would be overkill.
I think you can never overdue circulation and ventilation so I would go for a minimum of 250cfm rating on the fan and a speed controler on it.
a carbon filter will take care of the smell
an occilating fan will take care of the circulation (distinguished from ventalation)
Check out the Hidhut site....and talk/write to Justin who will be happy to advice you
you should be able to get all this gear, cut some vent holes at the bottom, one vent hole at the top...paint the inside white (first)....put on a lock and have a heck of a grow cab.....for pennies on the dollar compared to one of those kewl plug in and grow sets.
You may find better prices than Hidhut...but most of us recommend them for
good prices
quality product
great shipping
caring coustomer service
again call justin and he can set you up if you explain your needs and budget.
Our FAQ section as well as some of our stickies will answer all your question in detail. But not everyone needs to know how a car works to drive one with enjoyment...

Scott gives 100% reliable advice. You are in good hands. If you are interested in future hydro grows also check out Tokecrazy's cab grows. He does it very well. And read our FAQ's to learn more. If you have questions, just ask.
Peace

Tokecrazy is "THE MAN" when it comes to making grow cabs..and if you haven't seen his yet, go find his first thread about it. Damn...that cab of his is sweet!
Tell you what I would do, first thing. I would find a way to move that center panel (dividing the 2 halves) over to the right side more (about 6", maybe 8"). That is going to expand the flower chamber big enough to handle the 400W HPS for flowering, but be sure it is a good air-cooled cool-tube or the like that the lamp is housed in.
By having the larger flower space you can grow more plants in veg, and then maybe add another one to the flowering space. You only veg them so tall, anyway, before flower, and flower is where you'll need the space..

Howy Jr buddah Looks like you got a good start on her.Need any help with light tie the cab give me a holler I got a trick or two.Like ISO said I would move that center panel over to around 12"to 14"inches.clones dont need alot of room and a mother would do well with clf's.You will only be doing the tops three plants in there at one time.Timing is the key to a good cab grow, clone and root about 7 to 10 days, veg 1 to 2 weeks and then flower for 8 weeks about.A 400watt light will do very well in a small space. The cool tube is what I have and it is doing the job.I have a 300 cfm fan from surplus center.com I paid $19.95 for. That was a year and a half ago.Still going strong. You will get more yeild and better quality grows with 400watts and up.But 400 is high as I would go without a 6"fan.What are you doing for smell if anything?I'am helping a guy I work with build his cab. He's a carpenter like me,but doesnt know the how to vent and set it up and run it.So I'am helping him with hands on help cause he's close by.If I could travel to poeple and help them build there grow rooms and cabs I would love too,but I cant so I help you anyway I can just holler. Peace

Thanks for all the replies guys
and Toke I will definately need a carbon scrubber but my main troubles right now are figuring out how to do my venting and where to hang the fans and scrubber. Also i have to figure how to fix this big light hole i have, the center panel dividing the rooms is shorter than the sides so this means the doors dont close flush and so theres a big space dividing the rooms. good game walmart.
Thanks again for the replies everyone

Hey everyone, My new cab is almost finished.. I think i have six or so seedlings in there but I have a couple questions about finishing my flower room. I have a 200-300 cfm fan I'm hoping to cooltube a 400 watt hps and make a diy carbon filter. Is this fan going to be strong enough?
Also I'm looking for ideas on how to vent my cab. i have 2 2" intakes in the veg side and 1 in the flower side so far and one light trap between the veg and flower side so far should i put more intakes in the flower side or the veg side so it vents the veg before the flower? any ideas welcome the space is really tight in the flower side so far with the big 6 inch ducting I'm worried its going to be hard to get a cooltube in there the dimensions are 19"Dx23"Wx53"H
Also is a 400 watt overkill in this space should I go with a 250 or will the 400 give me much better results?
here are some pics so far the fan goes around the front edge because im concerned about heat issues until I get the ventilation figured out. P8230030.jpgP8230032.jpg
Thanks in advance for your responses

how much room do you have to flower? i would have just made the whole cab a flower chamber. you need as much room as possible. i'm in a dr60 tent and fighting for room with plants.

The dimensions of my flower chamber are 19"dx23"wx53"h i know its a bit tight but I really hope i can fit a cool tube in there because otherwise i dont think i will be able to keep the temps down on a 400 watt hps as you can see in the pictures right now i have my 300 cfm fan pulling out of the veg chamber directly because my venting isnt finished and im worried about temps, but when finished i want to have my fan pulling air out of the flower chamber through a carbon filter through a cooltube then out the back of the cabinet. Will this work to cool everything effectively? Also i need a bit of advice on where and how many passive air vents to make. im using 2" pvc elbows to make lighttraps for my vents.
Thanks for the advice everyone.

Your passive air intake should be twice the size of your exhaust fan. For instance: I have a 6 inch vortex. My passive intake is 3 X 4 inches which equals 12 inches, twice the size of my exhaust fan. I have 3 -4 inch pipes bringing in passive air to my room. Hope that helps you, and good luck.
Peace
