Rep Power: 33 | | Basement Closet Design
Pics to follow in a few days but i have an airflow question that i need answered so i can get circulation and thus setup my indoor grow.
I have a space(closet) that is about 6'Hx5'Wx7'L located in the basement. There is currently no airflow to this space other than a 16"circular whole in the ceiling of the space. The space has hollow walls which will help with passive intake.
I will be using a 400W MH light and might not grow in the full space. With that being said my room is 210CF and ambient temp is about 60degF.
Ive visited several sights, forums, wikis, etc and am still slightly confused. Since my intake temp is so low most calcs say i need less than 100CFM to cool the room. But the space is 210CF,..
so should i look into a 250CFM fan with inline filter?
Also what size do the intake wholes need to be to achieve my ventilation/circulatoin goal?
Thanks

Kinda depends where you are venting the warm air to.
Ambient of 60, and using a 400 in that space should be cherry.
If the warm air is leaving the bsmt then its perfect.
Take the area of the SMALLEST airflow point(smallest duct etc),
triple it = the area of the intake opening(s).

finished product with babies present...
you can see the old floor with partial setup in the first picture and then the other pics are just various angles of the closet.
since there were 2 holes in the ceiling, and ambient temp about 68/70 degrees i used one of the holes as a passive intake and have a non-pictured exhaust fan pulling air out of the other.

Hey siriguejo, That's one nice room you have to work with.As hot air rises you will do better having a exhaust vent up high and cool air intake down low.If the temps get out of hand you can get a air cooled shade to.Looks very good.I like that you have a door that you can walk into the room and it can be locked too.You may want to lower your light some.Put your hand on top of the plants and lower the light till you feel the heat on the back of your hand, then rise it alittle. You will get more light right on the plants and they will not stretch as bad.Nice job you have done keep it up.Peace

thanks for the light advice. i was curious about that but just kinda left it where it was bc by the time i thought about it the girls started shooting up from flowering.
also it was a hard judge for me since 2 of the plants started off very well, 2 of them were really weak indoor winter grows that revegged nicely when placed under sun and the last was just started a month later...so there were 3 heights to deal with.
its a learning process so i should be good to go for my next round :-D

with regards to this room i was curious if i could also dry in this space.
the total space is about 7x5 and i have it sectioned off so that the light/grow is in one 1/2 of the room. using panda poly that leaves the other 1/2 pretty much pitch black and a few degrees cooler than the grow area.
grow area stays about 73degrees but on hot days has gotten to 84.
since i have a carbon filter on the exhaust in the grow side the smell issue is already taken care of, so could i just use the non-grow side as a drying area? at least the initial dry area b4 papersackin them??
if this is possible it would greatly help with my situation.
any thoughts?

For me, 84 would be too warm unless the Hu is really low.

84 happened one day while we still had the dryer vening directly into the basement where the closet is.
been holding a steady 73 on other days since. today might be a stretch but i have the 12/12 running ON at night when the temps are cooler. plus with the AC units only being on at night the 12/12 cycle is hidden there :-)
i do however need to pick up a humidity meter. :-(

Hey Siriguejo,Yes you could use that space as long as the humidity is lower.Drying you want a lower humidity so the buds expel more of the moisture out of them. You have a nice set up to work with, keep up the good work. Peace

Your room is similar to mine. To see what I have dealt with, take a look at the first link in my signature. I used an existing window for my exhaust and just added one passive air intake to that window as I already had 2 vents existing in my flower room. I just used dryer venting to get the air to come in low in the room. This helps push the hot air up and out. You can get a cheap humidity and temp gauge from home depot. Once you know what this is, then it is easier to judge weather you can dry in there as well. I do it all in there as well as outdoor growing. It has worked well. I did find at times I needed a dehumidifier though and this also tends to raise the temps so watch for that. If you have enough cool air coming in and a strong enough exhaust then you should be able to cope with that. If you do not have enough passive cool air coming into the space then you can add holes on the outside of your room, with light blockers as this will aid your exhaust to pull out the heat. You must have 3 times the diameter of your exhaust of passive cool air coming into the space to get adequate air exchange. Other wise you will create a vacuum.

Gr8t work on your room. It does not take much room with proper planning to grow nice bud. Those plants look nice and healthy. What strains are they?

i have another thread with a few pics but still tryin to find a nice (read: cheap but high pixel) camera so i can take some better pictures. also have a shakey hand problem soooo that makes decent pics hard.

Hey Siriguejo, That a nice room to grow in.Here's a drawing of a vent you could install. You could hook a fan up to it also.it light proof too.Put of them on each of the two wall on opposite walls. Two on one side up high and two on the opposite wall down low. With your room it will work great. Here's the drawing I not real good at the drawing part. Peace

thanks toke, this would work but i think the walls are filled with OLD(read:prob asbestos filled) insulation. found this out while rewiring a crap light fixture to be the plug for my light/exhaust fan. i do however need better passive intake to help with temperatures...

thanks again toke...ive seen that from you before and was originally going to make that however there is really old insullation in the wall cavity that i would have to disturb. while i could just pull it out through the hole i cut i am worried that it might be so old it has asbestos in it. we will see tho.
thanks again mate.

Hey If you PM me and tell me when the house was builded I'll look and see if they used the stuff in there insulation.I have removed it from other places. They charge a arm and a leg to do that. It's not all what they make you think about how hard or bad it is,it's not. One of those plastic suits and gloves and some plastic sheeting and bags is all they use.For the little amount you will pull out it's not a hill of beans.Peace
