Default how is it not a vaporizer?

as long as you are heating the herb what like 365 - 390 degress farenheit you are vaporizing it...

what about heat guns with ceramic heating elements?

the Weldy heat gun looks pretty sick with a glass bowl under 200$

Performance Impressions Vaporizer Kit with the New Weldy Plus Heat Gun LCD

Anyone else done any research... for the best bang for the buck?

years ago, I saw plans for a DIY vaporizer... long before I'd ever seen or heard of one at a head-shop or the like.

The idea was basically like a bong shaped tube, with a car cigarette lighter element with a push button activation, modified and setup to replace the bowl. Instead of lighting it up, you filled the removable bowl that mounted directly over the heating element. You sucked on the tube and the smoke was pulled down and into the bong-like chamber (no water was used, citing danger of electrical shock) between the element and the bowl and up into your self.

If you used the heating element control button carefully, you would only burn the crystals, leaving the veg matter slightly crisped but not burnt. I could be wrong, but I believe this was the beginnings of the evolution of vaporizers Volcano/Caveman style, if you will.

I have been hooked since I used my friends extreme tower. I am all about diy as long as you can create something to the same degree in quality on the cheap. I actually got a digital hot temp cooking thermometer that goes up to like 600 degrees that I am going to borrow from work for a day to set one up.

As long as the heating element in the gun is ceramic and your using either glass or stainless steel connectors you should be good for the most part. I heard brass was fine because the temp isn't that hot, but I have always thought of brass as a no no so I wouldn't recommend it. You also need to know what temperature your weed is at, that is why a high temp thermometer is a necessity.

They sell turkey sized oven bags on the cheap as well. I like the convection / whip setups with soldering irons, but I want to go all the way. Anyone else have any good or better information?
