Rep Power: 123 | | Seed Vise for those hard to crack beans
Here is a tip, that I came up with that works well, to sand/scuff the seed's seam with an emory board.
Take a soft flat school type eraser and cut cross hatches in the middle 1/16 to 3/32 inch deep with a razor blade.
Then cut out a small slice in the center. Not too deep as you want the seam of the seed to be above the flat of the eraser while it sits in the divot you cut out.
Take a pencil with an eraser and cut a flat spot on the side of the eraser to hold the seed down from the side. You can also trim the pencil eraser into a V shape for clearance, while sanding if needed. My eraser was used and rounded, so I didn't need to make the V shape for clearance.
Once that is done, set the seed in the divot and play the violin with the emory board to scuff the seams.
Simple as that!!!!

Very good info. I also put them in a tupperware container and set them on a hotpad on low. Just be sure not to cook them.

another way to do the same thing is to line the inside of a matchbox with fine sandpaper, then pop the seeds inside and give em a good shake for a bit...
