Hey Bro, I just threw one togethere for sexing clones and I didnt get it smooth as glass, matter of fact I bought 2 emergency blankets (mylar) from the camping section of Wally-world for 1.98 a piece (84"x52"), just cut some pieces out and taped it with foil tape. IMHO you dont need it smooth, just something that reflects. The light it will bounce in so many directions that it will hit your subject sooner or later....

But I am not the master at this stuff, I just take advice and put my spin on it..

Peace,

Sock

Okay, what I have read and understand is that mylar should first off be smooth. That is one of the problems with it, it is hard to keep smooth and rips and tears easily. Same as tinfoil, it can make hotspots. Tinfoil is a definate no no as it can burn your plants with those hotspots. And mirror actually ABSORBS light, does not reflect all the light back and can again cause hot spots.

As well, mylar gets dirty. I have also seen people using the metal duct tape, for true vents, the actual duct tape and tape the whole inside of their boxes with it. My understanding is that mylar reflects 95% of the light. Flat white paint reflects 90%. It is cheaper, easier to wash a wall than to clean a wiggly sheet of mylar and the price is good. Paint it flat white and save your money. It works just as well and that 5% light reflection in such a small space will make little or no difference.

But that is just my humble opinion.

Peace

Good Info Jangel... No way in heck I am getting my solar blankets flat...LoL, but better to have something reflective than nothing at all..

Besides I rotate my youngsters several times aday, I guess you can do that when you are small scale....

But yes, when I go bigger and better, Flat white paint it will be..

Sock, for what you are doing, it should not matter. You are not growing them out in there. BUT if you where it could be a prob. Once your plant gets large in a cab you cannot move it regularly and hot spots will burn it. That is why it SHOULD be smooth. And why several use the metal duct tape.

Eventually, if and when I do go larger scale, I am thinking of large quanity of smaller plants hydro style indoor, maybe SOG etc.. But as always ideas change on a daily basis... I cant go outdoors here..

Back on the Mylar, It seems to me that they make a spray can of glue, maybe in the arts and crafts section at Wally, if you cut the mylar and used the spray glue, maybe you could like squeegee it on, like putting on auto window tinting, just a thought, likey more trouble than a can of flat white paint...

just paint it flat white on the inside, that is as good as mylar and cheap&easy. best is you ask for reflector paint with lots of TiO2 in it - nothing reflects light like TiO2 does. and if they have some in the store, pure TiO2, get some and mix it into your paint to get it super reflective

hey green, just a question, is there a huge difference with the flat white paint versus 'glossy' white paint?
i've always wondered this, just havent been able to find the answer.
you'd think the gloss would reflect better, but you dont know till ya ask someone who does.

With glossy paint, again, you get hot spots. It reflects better with just flat white. Do what green said, he knows about this. A smart and experianced grower is Green!
