Hey leap270,cut the plugs off. There you have three wires, one has a striping on it.That one is the power lineOr the black wire hooks to that wire. The other two are for speed.Your fan has 2 speeds.Hook the black wire of your power line to the black wire to the strip wire and touch the white to the other wire and then to the other and you will see witch one is the high speed and the low speed.Be very careful you are working with ac and you can get shocked. Is your fan 12v with a tranformer or is it stranght 120 volt ac? eirther way you hook it the same way. Need more hit me up. Peace

Hey leap before wiring it up, make sure it's either AC or DC fan. Based on the pic you gave, it's a computer fan which means it's a 12DC fan.. Wiring it up straight to AC will cause you MUCHO grief...

If it is DC, then you need a 110v AC to 12v DC converter plug.

BE very careful messing with electricity, it will BITE the mess out of ya.. I found an old cell phone charger that I used for my PC fan, just an idea..

If your not sure ask more questions, better safe than sorry Bro..

Peace,

Sock

Standard warning applies, 110V AC kills!.

Looks like a 12v DC fan to me. From the picture there is foil covering the 3 wires, you may need to peel it off. If this a standard PC 12V DC fan then there will be power, ground, and speed sense. We don't care about the speed sense so we can ignore that wire. That will leave only power/ground. How are you going to power this? I hacked the ends off a spare wall transformer I had. It was only 7.5V but works ok, the fans just spin a bit slower. If you do use a wall transformer or wall wart as I like to call them make sure it is not overheating.

Hope that helps,
R.

Leap:

Take a look at the fan and it should have a power rating, both in volts required and amps.

If it is a 12V, then write down how many amps the fan takes, and then head for your nearest Goodwill or Value Village. They usually have a box of those cheap transformers around and you can pick out the one you want for a buck or 2 instead of paying for a new part at retail prices.

Good advice ISO, remember you can always get a transformer with more amps than you need. Then you could add a second fan if needed.

I use a few older computer parts. originally i had 2 external hard drive to USB converters, but I just took the wall plug to 4 pin connector. I found something just like mine on Newegg:

Newegg.com - VANTEC CB-ISATAU2 SATA/IDE to USB 2.0 Adapter - Adapters & Gender Changers

Perhaps you can look for a cheaper adapter. $20 + shipping is a bit much for an adapter unless you're a comp geek like me and use the external HD connector anyways :-).

If its 12 volts, you could just use a 9v battery.
