Rep Power: 39 | | I'm off to the thrift store-
It may be a risk, but since I can't afford an inline duct fan, and don't really have the space for a desk fan type filter, I think I'm going to make one out of parts at the thrift store.I'm pretty knowledgable on electricity, so I think I could re-wire something like a hair dryer. I believe I have some charcoal, and I used to sell kirby vacuum cleaners so I have some little round "dirt pads" (static-charged hepa filters)If everything works then I'll post the instructions here.Wish me luck-Also, I had a similiar idea with using perlite in an air filter (to absorb odor-eliminating liquid) I'll try it all first and see if it works.

hairdryer fans are generally not strong enough for this application. I had the same idea and looked @ 5 different fans from various brands and none really made the cut.
Though they are defiantly better than pc fans for venting small areas.
For not much more than the hairdryer costs new, most ppl can get inline fans from hardware stores however.

Actually I found an air compressor (inflator). It's kind of heavy duty... 120v, and not meant to run for more than 15 minutes at a time. I had a 30v adapter so I hooked that up to it. It's a lot quieter, and doesn't get hot at all, but at 30v it just doesn't have enough power. I need to find another kind of adapter. Still, I got the adapter and the air pump for less than $5. If I have to find another adapter (or two or three until I get it right) it'll still have only cost about $11.

Just an update, don't know if anyone cares. I made a nice haul at a second trip to the thrift store.
Air Purifier (with carbon filter) $3.00 (cut a hole in the top of my box and set it up over the hole, flush with the box to pull the air. It's absolutely perfect.)
Wall lighting mount with 8 light bulb sockets- $2.00 (had to wire a plug to the end)
a hair dryer- $2.50 (use the fan as a mount inside to improve circulation)
the air compressor didn't work- it had the power, but was WAY too loud, and not designed to run for more than 15 mins at a time.. stealth is important.
so 7.50 and my box is finished completely.

WOW! Way ta go! Did you take pics while you where making it? Something like that could help a lot of people that live on small budgets and need to grow their meds. With some people it is eat or buy this. So that could help many people!
Love to see it myself. Good work and great price tag! I bought 2 of my bath light fixtures from Habitate for humanity and they cost me 2$ each. They are 3 lighters so I use them for side lighting, with the cfls hanging down in my veg area. And I can use 2 others anywhere I feel the need.
Peace
