| I dont know how many use or plan to use a heating pad for propagation but I was looking for one and remembered I use to make my own for my reptile cages. These things are awesome and are easily wired. You can add a thermostat to control the temps and it comes in two different sizes. I thought about making warmers for my up coming dwc challenge, and for under a humidity dome. I havent made one yet so I have no pics but anyone with any kinds of DIY skills can see how easy this stuff is to work with, and is safe as long as you wire it correctly and cover the ends properly. Here's a link to where I'll be purchasing it from when i'm ready to do it. Buy Flex Watt Heat Tape for Less All you need is flex watt heat tape, a extension cord, electrical tape, soldering iron, thermostat (optional but highly recommended) pretty much stuff you already have or for less than $10 (except for the thermostat).

| Thanks a HEAP for posting this! I haven't tried it yet, but surely will in the future as I have resisted buying a heating mat on principle - that principle being that the hydro shops want 40 bux for a heat mat and then another 50 for the thermostat! What a rip-off, IMHO. I've been using an old heating pad (moist heat, so it is water resistant) for some time now; it did its job well, but now it is getting too old and unreliable (medium setting is too hot and low isn't warm enough), so it's about time for a new set-up. This looks cheap and easy, but even IF it were to some out the same in price (which I HIGHly doubt), at least I didn't give ALL my cash to the hydro shop. I spend enough there already! Great post; PEACE! | ||||||||

| The old water beds ,the blater type they had a heating pad.It was about 30 or 40 inches long and 16" wide with a thermostat. If you can find one in a yard sale 2.00 or 3.00 bucks.I like that flex tape, you can make it any way you need to. Good post. Peace
