Trying to go cheap... which seems to be the topic of this section of Green Passion.
Used a lot of stuff gathered over the years... used aquarium, pumps, and a 400w light that had sat unused for a decade.
Put a new MH bulb in the system (29 bucks at home depot)
10 dollars worth of PVC and fititngs, handful of empty 2 litre soda bottles, and a bag of hyroton pellets... and a simple ebb and flow system was born.
Indoors I'd recommend a good timer so the flow can be regulated... outdoors in the 100 degree heat have it come on at sunrise and stay on til an hour after dark. ( or at least that's what my cooking herbs and vegetables love )
Anyways... cheap ebb and flow system that's almost two weeks into flowering.... and my first attemt at tying down/ screen effect. | | The Following 2 Users Say Thank You to WortMaker For This Useful Post: | |

Rep Power: 24 | | Here's some basics on it.... 1/2 pvc pipe and fittings 90 degree elbows, t's and one threaded fitting and adapter for the hose. Use plastic pieces from a drywall corner strip with holes and cut a piece to glue to the end of the pipe at the bottle. Keeps hydroton from falling in... 2 litre bottles fit perfectly on 1/2 inch pipe... just glue them on with pvc cement. Would cost more, but could add threaded fittings to unscrew individual cells. I made a pvc square with legs to tie string to to make a grid to control plant height...
An important part is making a "level control". Nutrient will go to a certain level then drain off. You can vent it to keep the nutrient at that level, or leave it closed and have it siphon the system and drain all the bottles before it refills.
A small pump in a tank pumps nutrients into the pvc pipes and slowly fills all the bottles at the same time.
THere ya go.... my version of cheap hydro

Very kewl! Many people that grow their own meds on a low income could handle this easily. No dirt to move, no bags of anything. but water. and hydratone.
Thank you kind sir for adding to our wisdom. I am sure others will tell you too.
