| I was thinking every body that has a automatic ice maker has a water filter in line with the ice maker.I know it removes chlorine and sedimemts and there about $10.00 bucks at home depot or lowes. If you would let the tap water sit for 24 or 48 hours than run it through the filter it would give you some low ppm water. What I was thinking is get a 30 to 50 gal plastic barrel and filling it for two days before I need to change the res and when I mix the nutr put a pump in the water hook the hose to the pump to the filter and pump out what I need to change the res with. Then add the nutr. It's a cheap way to get good tap water to use.No chlorine and less ppms. It's not r/o water but 50 gals is alot for a 14 gal res and 2 buckets. The filters are rated by the gals it will filter before you have to change it.Right now it's 20gals plus a week in buying distilled water.About $16.00 bucks a week.Later I will get a R/O filter later on. PEACE :trick:

| if just chlorine is your problem, that you can gas out easily. buy 2 buckets, 20gal+, maybe add an air-stone to speed things up. let the water sit in those buckets with and 200l air-stone and the water should be pretty chlorine free after 48h. if you get the stuff cheap this is a less the 50 bucks solution. ![]()

| Just hook the inline filter up to your tap. It'll take out a good 100 ppm of hardness and the chlorine and set you up well. For reverse osmosis at a reasonable cost check Ebay. Lotsa 5 and 6 stage units there for $60-100..... just beware that with R/O you drain away A LOT of water in the process of capturing yer R/O water. Gotta have access to a drain...etc. R/O may open up other problems..like Mg deficiencies. I'd go with the filtered tap water (and use it here daily in my hydro) 'cus it's cheap and easy and it'll also improve your drinking water at the tap. good luck btdt | ||||||||

| Hey guys I hooked up the water filter and run a 5gal bucket.Checked the ppm of the water at the tap,it was 400 and after the filter was 147,The Ph is high at 8.7,Checked it tonight and the Ph was the same and the ppm too.I dont think I will be buying water at wally world anymore. It took a hold 2:mins to fill the bucket.I think I will hook up three on one line so it will fill a bucket up alittle faster. Now all I have to do is figure out what's in the water now and how much nutr to use. PEACE

| I wonder if you could run more than one filter inline? Would that make a difference? Also I wonder if you could get a fresh water source like a river? That would be awesome to live near a river. I understand it is usually very clean. Depending on the location and how close bio hazzard producing co.'s are to it. I have also wondered about rain water. I understand this would be hard to move in incrrements of more than 10 gal at a tiime. | ||||||||

| Yes you can run the filters like that but there wouldnt be any advantage to it.The filter is only going to work as good as it is.It will only take out what it is suppose to,rust ,odor, chlorine, some metals. To get any better water it would be r/o 3 or 4 stage filter.I will hook up 3 filter but run them all from the same supply line and fill up the buckets 3 at a time.Ruffly 2 mins 15 gal water. You can catch rain water if ant salt air by the coast or acid rain.Rivers are good but they can be bad for hydro, good for soil.Well water is good but sometimes is hard water. PEACE

| As one who lives on a river, I would NOT use river water for any of my plants. River water is composed of rain, and whatever nutrients and chemicals it picks up on it's way downriver...and that can be things you don't want in your plants. I set up a simple rain-collector in my yard, and when it is raining good I can get 2 gal an hour from it..enough to handle pretty much all my needs. I save the water in covered, 5 gal. black buckets till needed, and so far this fall/winter have been able to keep 15 gal. in reserve at all times. This rain water is -0- PPM and PH's at 7.0, about as clean and neutral as it can get! In the summer I used chlorinated tap water that had been fed mucho air via 2 4" stones in a 10 gal tub. I find that after 12 hrs. the chlorene smell is gone, and I have used it without any problems. ALL the water I feed my plants has been aerated for at least 12 hrs in a 10 gal. tub I keep ready to go at all times, making sure it is full of good oxygen to feed the plants. So far, based on the results of my first completed grow, I would say it is doing a good job. ISO

| I happen to be in the water filteration industry. Do you need to remove chlorine a simple carbon block cartridge will do the trick.(will also reduce lead-voc etc)No need to remove benefitial minerials. If you need to remove sulfer- calcium-magnesium-TDS etc. I would suggest using an R/O. I have built my own undercabinet R/O system at the kit. sink, for cooking and drinking. I use a .5 micron carbon block for my fridge. | ||||||||
