DIY stealth rubbermaid grow box 2.0 Uncle Zeek style (aka minimal wiring)
ah ok boys and girls same principle applies to this setup as the one on the sticky but i find this one a little bit more bang for you buck and much easier cause its all able to be gotten in one stop (ok 2 for most people my home depot and walmart are next door to each other) and is basesd on the K.I.S.S. format (keep it simple stupid) with minimalizing wiring to playing match the colored wires together and twist, cap, and tape. The best thing about this thread is it encompasses complete cost, including diy carbon filter, for the entire grow box except for grow medium and items needed for chosen grow path(aka soil buckets etc but average cost for a cheap diy bubble ponics 5 gal system is about $25 each bucket and thats doing nothing fancy with it) . supplies to grab for the grow box are are as follows:
@walmart
2x 32 gal Sterlite containers on sale currently for $7.50 each
Container dimensions:28 7/8"x19"x19 1/4" (at the top it gets skinnyer slightly as it gets to its base)
3x 4 inch desk inline fan (is ac power ready just plug it into the wall and feels to me to be about there or more CFM than the computer fan and its a bargain) $5 each (save on the cost of radio shack adapter and don't have to wire them in)
1x Small container of Active carbon $6 each
2x Small wire mesh pencil holder $2 each
2x Jumbo wire mesh Pencil holder $5 each
1x cheap pair of panty hoes $5 max each
1x power strip 8 outlets $10 each
@Home Depot
1x can of both white matt primer and black primer spray paint (or a krylon) $10 ish for both (could be more) also mine will be in a closet so not worried about light leakage coming in.
2x pack of 2-27 watt Daylight cfls (6500k) $8 each pack
1x pack of 4-23 watt 2700k cfls $8 each pack
2x 4 socket vanity lighting fixtures $14 each (easier for placing fan and cheaper than y adapters)
2x el cheapo extension cordo quatro peso just kidding more like $4 each or buy the $10 ones and it will make it easier to wire and it looks better IMO.

Total for walmart shoping, rounded up ten dollars, is $75 out the door there. (tax and always better to over estimate in this kinda stuff.
Total for Home Depot, again rounded up ten bucks, is $62 out the door.
all in all on the cheapo plan call it $140 total, and thats going cheap on lights etc only thing i am going to personally do different is drop the 4x 23 watt lights and slam 42 watters in there with just those cfls on its putting out 10k lumens and rough sq footage is 2sqft maybe 2.5 sqft. with better extension cords and the 4x 42 watt lights the total is roughly $180 and the up side is doing it that way total lumens/sqft goes from (using 2sqft as area) 6000 lumens/sqft to 8280 lumens/sqft roughly (using 60 lumens/watt).
Also btw i have 2 exhaust fans at the top and one intake fan near the bottom goal for this is run 2 dwc systems in there so i can get two really nice plants going.
Will post pics once i get back from vacation here in a coupple weeks will have the laptop with me but i cant get pics of the setup and hopefully near the time when i get back i will be able to get 2 clones and see what i can get right now using 5 gal dwc buckets does anyone know if a 2.5 gal bubble ponics would work just as well (thinking more height to work with then).
Also guys i still have some assembly left on some stuff and i will strip off what i have (woo for just being screwed on) and do a step by step photos of it and once i get my clones we can see the power of cfls if you maximize the lumens/ sq ft could you get those super dense nugs you get with HID systems.
Oo and last min idea just crept up on me you could make your cab modular by building a ply wood space to fit between the tubs so you could capitalize on the strains that just defy you even if you use lst. Will look into cost/bene ratio and also i am going to run this first grow top lights only on my second grow im going to do bottom cfls with fans blowing directly on them (think im gonna add one more intake fan instead of leaving it passive). Ah well that will be grow 2 and 3 i guess.
Any who any tips on what to to to help a system like this flourish please reply input is always well come.
Till laters
Zeek
