| Ok this is written by a computergeek ( I should talk ) about building a LED array to light his computercase.(like anyone has a cooler case than me!!!) Long and Short If can obtain a 12v DC power supply aand soder you can make your own LED array for what ever purpose. this is a bit techical but if you have done any electrical or electronic work you can follow it. If not the concepts are not hard to learn. And there are links to more detailed aspects to his process. If I can add 40wt to my system and get an equivlent to 200 more wt of HID it will be worth it. If I can get same performance for 80 to 120 wt of total lighting with less heat that is worth it With HID systems running $600 us for 80 Wt Hell yes it would be worth looking into building your own. http://www.dansdata.com/caselight.htm

| there are still hardly any LEDs out on the market that punch out more then 80lum/W, high end ones that heat up like crazy so that a active cooling is required to run em hang around 100-105lum/W - and those go for more then $20, rather above $80 A PIECE! if you see now that a conventional CFL for less the $10 will bring you 80-100lum/W, a high end CFL will bring you up to 120lum/W. an MH will hang around 100 to 125lum/W, and a HPS even will top this with up to 150lum/W for the bulb price of a single top notch LED... it isn't time yet for this technology ![]()

| ^^wop, it still would take 600 ~1W high end LEDs and that at a price of $83 a piece without the cooling which cost about 25bucks in addition to that. and you know, for 50,000 bucks i buy myself a new car or two but not a single 60,000lum light for my grow, that i can have with a $200 HPS light setup ![]() by the way, i check today with the techs at my work on the cost of those LEDs, they got even more expansive ones on their shopping list but non brings more the ~3W home!
