Rep Power: 35 | | A/C unit for outdoor shed?
i was going to put my stealth box in an outdoor shed. The shed is almost like a furnace at least 10 degrees warmer than the outside air. I have 3 un used window a/c units in the same shed right now.. Anyone else use window a/c units or have any good ideas to set them up? I am not flowering or anything so there isn't really a need for a carbon scrubber... Just making clones... Really looking for ideas because I'm strapped for cash and would like to use one of the window units rather than make a carbon scrubber/fan exhaust system.. The shed is about 10x10.. I am thinking if I set one of the ac units on low.. hook up some flanges on the back of the ac unit and put them out the window for the exhaust it would work out just fine...

Ya man,I have just what your saying.15,000btu's in a shed.I built a closet inside, put some dryer vents for intake and co2 and an attic fan on each of the gable vents for exaust. Got a hatch door for the winter.and a tiny veg room-bud dryer on the side. I just wish it was in a nother state.
Your going to need fresh air. A/c's only circulate so you need an intake. That will give you the co2 you need for the girls to breath. Cheap fans in the attic blowing out to keep stuff moving. I taped a 4" fan to one of my two inlets. If your going to run hot lights,Put the a/c so as it blows on your lamps to keep the heat in ck.Set up sans lights $200.00
Blessings

the way you have it setup it doesnt intake at all from the outside? just circulates on the room side? the side that sticks outside just exhausts heat? no intake from that side?

Just tossin around a few ideas for you , it might help ..
I Think since your just wanting to keep clones you should go with a closed off section like Pinboy did, ....will be easier to maintain, cost less to maintain, and not be as much of a "potential' problem for the future.
Maybe if you closed off a section ,
Painted flat white,
Install lights, [If there's no power in the outbuilding, bury the drop cord in the ground and run it up threw the bottom of the building,(if its set up on something).]
Have a fan that stays in the room,
and then a fan blowing out of the section, into the rest of the Storage building,
For intake ,only thing i can think of that would be cheap, easy and quick, would be to cut a circular whole in the buidling (bottom of the wall,in the corner)
And then to hide the light at night and of course the big gaping whole,
Maybe get some pvc pipe, one of the curvy pieces, that will fit into your hole and direct the light down, while still getting fresh air in,
Hide the pvc pipe witha Grill, when not in use, or lawnmowers, even a woodpile, brick pile, brush pile, paint it the same color as your building,
Goodluck man, this is all i can come upwith really for a cheap, easy, DIY

as far as the Airconditioner goes,
i wouldnt put one on the side of my building unless i had no neighbor's,
to me' it just looks suspicious,
nobody around here has AC units in the outbuildings,

I usually post on another page but travel through these parts occasionally..
thats my little veg stealth barrel..
still need to finish off with mylar and the light leak at the top with black paint and weather stripping.. but its hella sweet.. I'm a bartender and got this barrel so I decided to use it...
I have to leave for work right now as a matter of fact.. so I am trying to post quick..
it has a hole in the center on the bottom for drainage that I am using as passive intake.. i need to expand it a bit and also expand the passive exhaust.. its a little small but its also a hole at the top of the barrel..
so far its a tight setup.. i am gonna put this is an outdoor shed...
should I just go with a passive intake from outside? would just that work? i mean 10 degrees hotter inside than outside during the summer I may have some serious heat problems.. than the cfls too.. will get really hot.,.. I need to setup one of the a/c units I'm thinking...
need to do it stealth.. was gonna set it up right inside the window.. ill try and get more pics to get better understanding.. and I'll try to draw what I'm thinking..

I Am also using the barrel method right now,
I got 2 120mm computer fans , split the wires-connected to a 12 volt AC to DC converter
A whole in the bottom sucking in fresh air and cold air from the central air vent,
Once again , i suggest pineboy's method, boxing in or closing in a small area big enuff for your barrel, with a small ac unit ,
I Would like to know what you ended updoing man, goodluck

I am thinking of just putting the barrel inside the shed... its already wired for electricity.. hopefully by thurs ill have it updated for ya.. hook up the ac... we'll see
pic of the shed..
quick q..
do I need the a/c? or can i just run fans?
was thinking of making a box to put the ac unit in.. have it insulated so it will be silenced.. have it resed off the window.. get the cool air funneled into an air duct to bring to the bottom of the barrel... than just having passive exhaust with a 4in high velocity fan spinning at the bottom of the barrel toward the top.. the little dude has some muscle.. thats what im thinkin' iono.. much appreciated feed back though...
also do i need to add an exhaust fan for the whole shed.. right now its pretty hot in there..

also do i need to add an exhaust fan for the whole shed.. right now its pretty hot in there.. | If you run the duct from the ac into a nice fitted whole / into your barrel, then i would say no, But take into consideratin the Heat level inside the building may affect your temps inside the barrel, ( once again this is why i would close off a section, to control THAT CERTAIN rooms temp's, not try and manage the whole buildings temps. If your gonna close of a section off the buidling, and install the ac there in your grow room, Great that will eliminate the exhaust fan for the whole building, And you can look at Pineboy's pictures for how to create and cover up the exhaust fans , as he did in his building. your kinda limited to what you can do on the low, cheap, and quick fix. I Would definetly have a small fan inside of the BARREL (120MM COMP. FANS WORK GREAT FOR THE BARREL) and i always like to have one SUCKING the heat out off the barrel, Your building is already wired for electricity is great , Set back in view (or inside) of your Building, smoke a Fattie and think it out. Goodluck man, keep us updated! i will post pics of mine soon, have to get some batteries first.

oh, and the main reason i was saying to close off a section like Pineboy, is because then you wouldnt have to worry about exhausting the WHOLE building, just your grown room,
will be easier , cheapier, and WAY MORE EASY to control the atmosphere in the little room.
Take in consideration, You will have a AC unit sticking out the window, (covered or not)and then a exhaust fan blowing out, (that you might have to carbon filter for future ) .
all out of one little building lol?
Just seems alot to do for a barrel grow,
Close it off and that cuts half of your questions out. and half the work, and then comes, HALF the money spent.
Whatever you decide, im happy to help, and im sure others will chime in with more idea's, and solutions to your problem.
Peace

yea man i already have the barrel and the ac unit..
to section off a section than there wouldnt be a point in the barrel..
i first made the barrel to keep inside, but i have to put it outside..
just hook up the a/c with some insulated flanges/duct work (for the cool air thats blown) to the bottom of the barrel which i can put on a shelf in the corner of the shed. Have the hot air end of the ac next to the window, but recessed inside so not visible. Have an intake/exhaust from the outside air to the barrel than back to the outside air... This barrel is only for vegging clones.. i have the idea i am pretty sure it will work out.. i have off tomorrow so ill post what i come up with
.:edt:.
it sucks I got called into work today so no update.. have to work tonight, pull a double tomorrow but off saturday.. def good lookin
