Police say Princeton crime victim was growing marijuana

by Michael Ratcliffe/The Times Wednesday May 07, 2008, 8:17 PM

PRINCETON TOWNSHIP -- A township man who called 911 to report that his home had been burglarized ended up getting arrested himself after officers discovered marijuana plants growing in a concealed room in the basement, police said.

Police said Arthur Leuck, 46, called police about 7:20 p.m. on April 30 and said that someone had smashed the sliding glass door at the rear of his home on Benjamin Rush Lane and stolen his flat panel TV and home theater system. The break-in took place sometime between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m that day, police said.

As Cpl. Francisco Castro and Detective Benjamin Gering were searching to make sure the burglars were not still in the house, they found four marijuana plants growing in the basement behind a false wall constructed of cardboard and wall board, police said, noting that some of the plants had apparently been stripped of their leaves by the burglars.
In addition to the plants, and materials used to cultivate the plants, officers found more than five pounds of marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the house, police said.

Leuck -- who, according to state records, has been employed by the New Jersey Turnpike Authority for 23 years and made more than $77,000 last year -- was charged with multiple drug possession and manufacturing charges, police said.

Officers charged with Marijuana Trafficking
By Don Riley
6/17/2008

Three Metro police officers are in trouble - they were all arrested for a marijuana trafficking operation. U.S. Attorney Tim Morrison says 33-year-old James Davis, 37-year-old Jason Edwards, and 34-year-old Robert Long are indicted on conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute more than 50 kilograms of marijuana.

Long and Edwards were narcotics officers while Davis was a patrol officer. A fourth man, 31 year-old Kabec Higgins was also arrested. He runs a music store called "Ear Candy Muzik" and allegedly distributed the marijuana for the other three. All four had an initial hearing before a magistrate judge Tuesday afternoon.

The officers involved had been trafficking in marijuana for at least a year. Among the charges from the four-month investigation. Federal prosecutors say the three diverted marijuana and cash for their own use at times using fictitious search warrants to seize private property.

They are also accused of breaking into homes. Officers Long and Davis also seized $20,000 in a traffic stop but never turned the money into the department.

The FBI is confident the drug trafficking conspiracy was confined to only these three officers. IMPD Chief Michael Spears says he wants to re-instate polygraph tests within the police department. Routine polygraph tests were discontinued when the police and sheriff's departments were consolidated in 2007.

Wow, videoman, I can't believe that dude called the cops! Especially since he made more than enough money to replace what was stolen. Good grief. I would not have called 'em, but if I did, I would have made damn sure that I had moved everything!

Oh, and ISO, man, at least when you jack a thread, you do it in style! -j/k BTW
