| http://www. myfoxla. El Monte -- A "sophisticated " operation that could have produced more than $1 million worth of marijuana was found inside a home in a gated community in El Monte and three people were arrested, police said Friday. After receiving a number of tips, detectives went to the Maxson Villas community in the 2800 block of North Maxson Road around 10 p.m. yesterday, said El Monte police Detective Ralph Batres. Two men in their 20s who were renting the two-story home let the detectives in, Batres said. "We discovered a very sophisticated operation in the home," Batres said, adding that police found more than 1,000 plants under heating lamps in bedrooms upstairs. The plants could have produced a stash of marijuana with a street value of more than $1 million, Batres said. The two men were allegedly stealing electricity to provide lights for their plants and power the operation's air system, Batres said, adding that police seized a $50,000 BMW. Henry Kwong, 22, of San Gabriel and Yue Huan Mai, 25, were arrested for "conspiracy to cultivate and distribute marijuana," said El Monte police Detective Pete Lopez. Police also arrested Denise Guan, 32, of San Gabriel for the same alleged crimes, Lopez said. Kwong and Mai were held on $50,000 bail each for the felony bookings, and Guan was held on $25,000 bail for the felony booking, according to the sheriff's department. The investigation led detectives to locations in the Walnut and San Gabriel areas, where police found marijuana, items related to marijuana growing, packaging materials and U.S. currency, Lopez said. The month-long investigation was conducted by the El Monte Police Department's special investigations team and agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration, Lopez said. | ||||||||

| People doing these kinds of grows need to stop acting like criminals, stealing, etc. It just ain't right, and doing that kind of thing isn't justified at all because they were growing ganja.... IMO we need to get the criminal element out of the marijuana business...stealing is wrong..marijuana isn't morally wrong (IMHO) but we must defy the law to grow our harmless herb, and, if they hadn't been swiping their electricity from the Gov't (which we all pay for in our electric rates) they probably would not have been caught. Rant over.. ISO

| right token, end the prohibition and you end the crime! well, there still will be some people stealing power but most that do so don't grow weed, they just can't pay the bill. just look at what you have to invest to grow a oz of the finest and compare this to the street price of an oz of weed - with that kind of money you can grow 20 oz if not even more! And as always they claim if they would end prohibition crime would fully grow out of control, but isn't it out of control right now and didn't the end of the alcohol prohibition also meant the end for the bootlegger gangs of Capone and the rest? sure it did that, every end of a prohibition is a victory for the law abiding citizens oppressed by it and and a blow to organized crime making profits off the situation.
