That is why Hooker suggested that we put up a sign saying no cigarettes or cell phones allowed indoors.

Wow..... I thought this thread would get a whole lot more attention. This is heavy stuff. Anyone can punch in a code for a cell phone and then dial that number and activate the microphone while the cell phone is off and listen to everything within ear shot of the microphone. The FBI uses this feature for surveillance and has made several busts using this feature. FBI taps cell phone mic as eavesdropping tool | Tech News on ZDNet

@ 3:20 in.. you have to have the phone at one point to hack it. Then you can compromise it.

It's about as unusual as smoking the good herb.
At this year's conference, they busted a fake atm that was stealing people's cards and pin numbers at the hotel the conference was in.

eh, i was raised in the age of technology booming so the idea of big brother watching isnt as out there for me, it doesnt sit well but we know how to better handle it, pre paids, keeping large billed hats, changing facial hair often, no paper trails pay in cash all that jazz.

its been known for years now that cell phones arent safe.
if you are doing anything you dont want the cops to know about:
1 dont take a cell phone its a portable GPS device the cops can home in on.
2 take out the battery and to be safe the sim card as well.. just turning it off doesnt work. a cell phone is a portable bug...

Rep Power: 265 | | I WILL NOT live in fear. Period.
Yes, the technology does exist for them to listen in on a cell phone, but, there are millions upon millions of cell phones in use everyday in the US and around the world (likely hundreds of millions of phones).
For them (Fed's,) attempt to gain evidence via this type of surveillance they will need a damn good reason to be listening in...a judge isn't going to accept just any reason they dream up. If "they" want to get you, they will, so don't give them any reasons to.
Never hurts to be cautious though, so using common sense is the operative concept here.
JMHO...

this has been around for a couple of years (at least) now.. taking your battery out is about the only way to combat this
bluetooth is EASY to hack and those headsets make you look like a dork

Here is another heads up.My friend was coming over to help me out with his paint sprayer.I asked if he needed directions. No he said...I'll show you something cool when I get there.
He fed my lan line # to his cell phones Google earth feature and it showed my house.I freaked out.Watch out where your hard line number goes.
Dont think by not using a cell phone that you can maintain your privacy. It seems that privacy is a thing of the past

If you are a patient person, the way to insure 100% privacy of your communications with another person is to use good old SNAIL MAIL!
Write them out a note in Word (or even...(gasp!) handwritten) and then add a little stamp to it and drop in any USPS mailbox (if you're in the USA). A day or so they can read all about it in perfect, Federally guaranteed safety. Be sure to "burn after reading" if it's really juicy stuff..
"Old School" is not always "Bad School"....

You actually never have to see the phone to hack in. The video talked about hacking software and other ways to get in... but there is a code that is built into phones that if you have that code you can dial it from any phone and then enter the number of the cell phone you want to listen to and it turns on the microphone of the cell phone without even turning on the phone. Another code turns on the camera of a cell phone with a camera.
I will not ever own a cell phone. I have no use for one, I've never needed one and I won't allow one in the house. I'm perfectly legal in my grow operation but letting big brother have access to the privacy of my home is not an option.
I posted this because people should be aware that their cell phone is a surveillance devise, that the government does have access too. In fact, anyone that might wish you harm could get access too. Is the convenience of taking your phone to the store really worth compromising your privacy?

Yeah i no longer have a cell and don't intend to any time soon. That **** is scary and i want no part of any BB listening/tracking device. Cell phone companies in the US are required by the feds to keep your "Signal load" data for at least 6 months. From that they can pretty much triangulate the position of any phone they want down to about 10' for the past 6 months. And that's all of em people, they don't have to be on to you then start the process they just need to get suspicious enough to want to take a look at the logs they already have.
