About 10,000 marijuana plants discovered and eradicated near Fremont State Peak

A marijuana grow of about 10,000 plants found near Fremont Peak State Park was eradicated Friday, the Monterey County Sheriff's Office said today.

The roughly 1-foot tall plants, with a potential street value of $40 million at maturity, were spotted last week by officers while flying aboard a National Guard helicopter above the mountains north east of Salinas, said Sgt. Daniel Karamitis.

Agents of the County Marijuana Eradication Team and the Sheriff's Narcotics Unit, with the help of a helicopter from the California Highway Patrol, descended on the grow Friday, Karamitis said.

Care takers had set up a camp and stocked supplies near the grow but no one was there when officers arrived and no arrests were made.
Karamitis said they are continuing to investigate.

40 millions bucks... could work out almost if the had em unsexed out there but still, i won't to see that field of 10,000 plants! that is just too many to go unnoticed by air recon, and i don't thing anyone would put up so many in a single spot or even close together. besides, digging in a 1000 plants is a lot of work already. just a reason more to apply the "LEO Factor" - so it been actually probably more like 100 - 1000 plants then the claimed 10,000.

well at least they gave numbers that may work out , unlike around this area were 10 plants = 100k+ maybe the dea jsut needs better scales and a calculater heh

for CAMP they have quotas, no clue on the exact numbers only that they never met their quota yet - guess we either don't grow enough or they to DUMB! never the less, in order to keep their budget open they gloss over the numbers as they have to eradicated at least a billion dollar worth per annum with their big budget. they should turn them into border guards or something slightly useful... and cut the DEA budget to ZERO - actually they should be charged with cost of their war, why should the tax payer pay that?! DEA agents get a fat pension check each month for terrorizing citizens, it would be just fair to take that away from them if you ask me.

I could not agree with u more green , and even though i loath the DEA and most 3 letter agencies for that matter. One still can not say the world would be a better place if they weren't busting the meth labs.... 26 in the county i live in alone and i am far far north ... but yet they still would rather bust the pot growers because in the end we are the afer bust ... normally a home operation is just that and we won't take armed assualt agaist the feds or dea for the prosecution of 10 or so plants .... were on the other hand a tweaker will take up arms agaist his shadow if need be ... by busting growers and sick people they get to keep there paycheck without all the hassle of doing something good and maybe getten shot at. The DEA is a waste a complete waste when half the time they just take credit for some other agency....

it is also a question of number - meth is a common problem today, but there are way more tokers around then these tweakers and proportional to that is the amount of grown weed, epically after 9/11 and the closure of the boards - actually the cut the spending on this issue since 9/11 and increased the funds of the DEA but that is another weired game of the neoconservative bunch.
fact is:

• there are more small grow ups and outdoor grows then meth labs as the production of meth takes up less space and takes only hours compared to month it takes to grow some good bud.
• stoners do not tend to aggressions - makes a bust way safer then to storm a house loaded with tweakers, those just don't stop once they are started
• less health risk as a meth lab is full of toxic components - tokers rather watch their health and don't mess around in their grows
• more to show off in the media: a small bag of ice doesn't look like much but a few plants will easily fill a gazillion big garbage bags and that looks like they been busy even if their loot weights only a few pounds
• most growers just do it for their own consumption, means no gang ties, means low firepower if any
• in addition are many of us rather from the left wing and a good portion of those applauses to every gun-grabber that passes then - so much to risk once more

So, it is somehow understandable that the DEA goes mainly after us and not the meth labs and crack kitchens - we are more, we are mainly non-violent, looks good on FOX, penalties are high for us so we fill the prisons well and the main reason: the DEA was build around the prohibition of marijuana, and if they lose this prohibition they to more then 90% out off business already! their main occupations has always been busting tokers as they are the easiest pray out there, it been Nixons big issue back then as they feared that all the green could stop the fighting and free some mind that then could notice what Nixon and his gang was up to - just look who they all fooled back then, even Dr Paul was supporting Nixon's campaign back then only to figure out that it was a mistake in the end.

And also not to forget is the racist background of these laws, they been created to pray on everyone that happened not to be Caucasian and do to this day as more Afro Americans are locked up for simple possession then white kids. the first to me known drug laws been created in BC to pray on the Chinese works back then and i think this is to this day a driving issue as well behind this war machine.
