Rep Power: 69 | | Growing for those with mobility issues section
I was inspired by a poll/ thread started by Desert Woman to investigate resources for those with physical challenges in their life who want to grow their own medicine. The goal of this site is to provide informational assistance to those who wish to do so. After searching for quite some time I've found little with specific intent on the subject. Which leads me to this thread. If anyone out there is physically restricted, wheelchair bound, and still has found ways to adapt their grow to their lifestyle, I would love to hear about it. It may end up becoming separate threads, and if we get enough together for information, it may warrant a few stickies or possibly even a sub-forum. It might help to advance MJ growing into the 1980's. And I can't think of a better place to start than Green Passion, the most compassionate forum of which I'm aware. I've got a few ideas of my own, but I'm interested to see what others have to say first off. This is a minority segment of the population that have a correlatively high necessity for this info, and it seems a shame to let such an opportunity pass. So if you know anyone who has some advice and tips on transport of equipment/supplies, making growspace accessible, providing for ease of use for lighting and so forth, please inform them of this thread and solicit their invaluable input. Thanks a billion.

This is a link for New Mobility online. It is a periodical geared toward active lifestyle wheelchair users. It may help to spark some ideas or to assist with an idea of the challenges that need to be tackled. I haven't read the mag in a few years, but I used to read it every month. It has some valuable info and can definitely lend itself to this endeavor. New Mobility: The magazine for active wheelchair users

I am not in a wheelchair but when I get time, I am gonna build some turntables to put the plants on so I can more easily water and work on em. I think that would help me a lot and be great if I was in a wheelchair. I just hope there is someone willing to build something like this and anything else a handicapped person would need to make things simpler for them!

I'm going to be compiling these ideas and working on those within my resources when I get a chance. I'm going to draft up some common issues at some point when I have time, and will solicit support in tackling those issues. Great post. If you get a chance, while undertaking the DIY, a few photos of construction would be infinitely appreciated. Thank you.

I have been to many different forums and this is something that I have been considering for quite a while. Not only those in wheelchairs have mobility problems. People with MS, Parkinsons, and bad backs as well as people with Rhumitoid arthritus and any other type of arthritus also have these problems. Lifting is one major problem for people. Big bags of soil, easy for those hail and hearty individuals are impossible for others not as fortunate. Some take up hydro, others use caregivers to help them out. This is indeed helpful info for many people.
In this vien I developed my LST'ing technique. To make it easy for those that deal with not only small, short spaces but also for those that do not have manual dexterity to tye down plants with string. It is a lot easier laying a chain along a branch to lower it than to tie it down with string that must be moved and manipulated to get the maximum benefit of these techniques. Not everybody can do this.
Here is the link: LST'ing with Hardware & Chains
It is also in all my signatures. Much info in there from a wide range of growers.
Feel free to use whatever you find helpful, in any of my posts.
Peace

Peace | I was absolutely thinking about your techniques in this regard just last night. That's absolutely perfect. Many of the mobility issues that affect the wheelchair bound and the resulting adaptations lend wonderfully to other mobility issues as well. And though most people with these issues have caregivers of some sort, not all of them will have access to trustworthy companions in an endeavor like this. It's my goal to provide as much useful information toward independence, a quality in life I find sacrosanct. Thank you for the info and permission!!

I have a buddy old school cat. he had his legs blown off in a war .he is in a wheel chair .so he got a couple round tables they are 6 foot edge to edge .well I cut out to 6 foot circles for the tables and he put them on some rigs he had that would alow him to spin them around so he could get what he needs to it works out perfect for him and if he needs to he has a robo grabber thingy.oh one more thing on the edge of the tables I took a router and one and a half inches in routed a grove on tables and on the cut outs put a little groove any way the cut outs are bolted to the spinner in the center of table well thethe cut outs teetered side to side so I put those grooves and we placed round bearings in the grooves aruond the table that stopped the rocking of the cut out also helps them spin a little easier.above ech table he has 600 watters only thing he really spent any money on was lights,we have a landscaping place on the corner of our block so all the free pots we need all sizes #1 to 10gallon.also compost and soil or soilless mixes all for free.the guy that runs the place askes the whole neighbor hood for all of their fruit and vegetable scrapes and leaves grass clippings the food is for his worm farm, leaves and grass clipping for the compost pile so everyone that contributes gets freecompost wormcastings pots whatever we may need the he has ???If old school needs to raise lights or anything he calls me to help him I live behind him acroos the alley.I try to help this guy out as much as I can He has no family here ,no kids nothing. To me this guy is like a grampa that likes to smoke, and dont like to put money in the pockets of "THUGS",or"GANSTAs" is how he put it.

If you could possibly take some pictures to explain how this is made, it could help a lot of people.
This is the type of innovation we need to see.

Ill see if he will let me take a couple of pics?he is kinda funny like that real low key?I WILL TRY TO FOR SURE!
the thing that spin are from the bottom of somr swivel chairs then bolted 3quarter inch plywood cut to 6 foot circles then bolted to the tables.the grooves are just big and deep enogh to put the bearings in kinda like a track they can not rool out the groove on the cut outs are just so they ride in them.the main reason for the bearings was just to stop the rocking side to side nothing fancy at all.I think the tables came from goodwill?Like I said everything was just stuff lying around no real money involved.
I love this site!!!It is very very usefull from diy projects, to the hospital for sick plants any and everyting you could possily need to know about MJ is here!!!!

I was definitely hoping so. Thank you everyone for your input so far, I am pressed for time but I have a lot to say when I get back. I'm extremely grateful to see this level of interest so far.
