Illinois NORML - Home

Please call 217-782-2000 and have the state operator connect you to your State Senator's office. Tell your State Senator to cosponsor and vote in favor of SB 2865, the Alternative Treatment Act. Also please do the same with your State Representative for HB 5938 and HB 4715. HB 5938 is the House equivalent of SB 2865 and HB 4715 is a bill to allow police to issue a citation for misdemeanor cannabis possession charges instead of arresting offenders.

Illinois Medical Cannabis Bills 2008
Feb. 16, 2008, Chicago, IL: Sick and terminally ill patients might soon be able to seek relief if Illinois lawmakers can pass the Alternative Treatment for Serious Diseases Causing Chronic Pain and Debilitating Conditions Act. The act would allow for the compassionate use of cannabis by those whose doctors recommend using the plant as an alternative form of treatment and was introduced by State Senator John Cullerton. Patients would have to apply to the Department of Public Health and would be issued a registry card permitting the patient or a primary caregiver to possess up to 2.5 ounces of cannabis and up to twelve plants in an enclosed locked room.
