I am a medical marijuana patient from rural, conservative Central CAL.
Since the FEDs are no longer actively seeking to close our dispensaries they are popping up everywhere. Some narrow minded governments on the local level are now seeking to close our dispensaries. San Diego, Fresno and now conservative rural Madera County is the latest.
Late last week a group of people from 19 churches submitted a petition to the Madera County Board of Supervisors asking to close the 4 Medical Marijuana dispensaries located within the County. They will vote this Tuesday 9/22 at 9:00 to close them. So far no media coverage, even at the local level. This is something the BOS wants to do very quickly. I am sick of being bullied by these local governments for my right for safe access to my medicine.
If like myself you are sick of this, here is your chance to vent. Please, I would encourage anyone to e-mail the Madera County Board of Supervisors regarding their efforts to close our dispensaries. The web link below has their e-mail toward the bottom of the page. MaderaCounty.com | Board of Supervisors
Those of us that live in the area will be showing our support at the BOS meeting, at 9/22, 9:00am 200 West 4th Street
Madera, California.

Madera, California. | Thank you for highlighting this. I am not a resident in these areas, my locale doesn't have such provisions in place for medicinal access except under barringly limited circumstance, but on your and your area's behalf I'd love to contact them to prevent further steps backwards. We, as a community, cannot afford to lose any ground, it is so hard won. I hope others will do likewise.

Also on this site is a database, I think it's a sticky. When I find it again, I'll direct you toward it. The database is essentially a PR media contact search engine that could assist you in alerting the media, I do believe it was intended for rally information, and the like, but I think it is useful for issues such as these. It may have been the NORML site that I'm thinking of, I've been rather scattered and overwhelmingly busy lately. Went to Boston to see a couple of friends up there and attend Yesterday's rally. I'll try to update in a bit, got more crap to take care of today.

Sending the Board a copy of my "Granny Storm Crow's list" might open a few eyes. Grab yourself a copy by emailing i.wantgrannyslist(at)yahoo.ca and I'll send it off to you today.

The Madera County Supervisors voted unanimously to pass an emergency ban on dispensaries.
Thank you to everyone who e-mailed, especially the lady from Merced . One Supervisor started to read her e-mail, then teared up.
He mentioned that his wife had glaucoma and would benefit from Cannabis. He also said that she would never use Cannabis. He also said he saw how it ruined and addicted the lives of our young. Because of that he voted for the ban. This is the crazy reasoning they were using. The Sheriff testified that violence, robberies and other types of crimes increase when dispensaries are opened.
By the way this is the same Sheriff that was charged with DUI recently, but not booked or jailed. I don't know where he got his facts.
This is what happens when people go to the polls uninformed and elect people on their "sound bites" and not their real views.

Sorry about the crappy link. Here is a copy of the story. Madera Co. bans pot dispensaries Published online on Tuesday, Sep. 22, 2009 By Pablo Lopez / The Fresno Bee
Madera County supervisors voted unanimously Tuesday to approve an ordinance that bans medical marijuana dispensaries in the county.
Supervisors said dispensaries can increase crime, including drug-dealing, robbery and loitering, which impairs the health, safety and welfare of the community.
There are three medical marijuana dispensaries in Madera County -- one in Oakhurst, one outside Madera city limits and one near Highway 41 and Avenue 15, east of Madera.
They have been operating without a permit, Supervisor Frank Bigelow said.
Now, they will be shut down because the ordinance takes effect immediately, he said.
A 1996 California voter initiative allowed the use of medical marijuana. But the act does not "expressly authorize medical marijuana dispensaries," the ordinance said, and the state has not given counties or cities direction on how to implement the act.
Federal law treats marijuana as an illegal drug.
An explosion of medical marijuana dispensaries across the state has left cities and counties scrambling to figure out how to handle them.
Fresno, for example, has sued nine such dispensaries in an attempt to shut them down. The reporter can be reached at plopez@fresnobee.com or (559) 441-6434. |

Sounds as if you need to file a class action law suit against the board members and sheriff, this would have to be filed by the county voters representative...
This Ban goes strictly against the voters that enacted the State law in 1996, the county Can Not Ban IT, they must find a way to REGULATE IT.
They have 2 choices here, Regulate it or move they're county out of Calif.
Otherwise they're in violation of the state laws...
This should have been done when they first mentioned voting on this...
Where is Norml, what are they doing with all the money they collect????
And this happens in their own backyard!!!!
Another sorry day for the VOTERS of Calif.
Peace
