Rep Power: 312 | | The Disappearing Male
"The Disappearing Male is a CBC documentary about one of the most important, and least publicized, issues facing the human species: the toxic threat to the male reproductive system. The last few decades have seen steady and dramatic increases in the incidence of boys and young men suffering from genital deformities, low sperm count, sperm abnormalities and testicular cancer. At the same time, boys are now far more at risk of suffering from ADHD, autism, Tourette's syndrome, cerebral palsy, and dyslexia. The Disappearing Male takes a close and disturbing look at what many doctors and researchers now suspect are responsible for many of these problems: a class of common chemicals that are ubiquitous in our world. Found in everything from shampoo, sunglasses, meat and dairy products, carpet, cosmetics and baby bottles, they are called "hormone mimicking" or "endocrine disrupting" chemicals and they may be starting to damage the most basic building blocks of human development." many thoughts occur to me watching that vid.
1. population control? good things and bad, purposeful or accidental?
2. devaluation of the male role in modern society
3. chemical self-destruction... can we, as a species... avoid it?
4. damage done and evolution going forward. what can this make of us as human beings?
all very scary stuff to me. thanks for the info though!
going to go share this video with some of my motorhead friends.

Me too! I've been minimizing the usage of chemicals and plastics as much as possible for the past few years. Still, I imagine some damage has been done to my gene pool. My parents meet at a uranium enrichment plant, LOL! Quote:

this was really interesting to me......recently my hubs has been under a lot of stress and has had issues with his health for about 2 years now...nothing i could put my finger on and the docs could find nothing wrong so i took things into my own hands and had his hair tested by a bioenergist....
she found through the testing that hubs has a toxic chemical in his spinal fluid connected to biological warfare.....she thought it was related to either his father or grandfather and had been passed down through DNA!!
his grandfather did serve in the war(ww2) in italy and the area they are from is still full of unexploded bombs hidden in caves around the mountains.
i do believe we are slowly killing ourselves with chemicals and i dread to think how life is going to be for my kids and their kids if we don't do something about it now....

Wow! I know, I really became conscience a few years ago after finding out about having a high count of C-8 in my body attributed to the making of Teflon. As a child I love to drink water from the water fountain at school, never would have thought some of the stuff I drank would still be in my body 30 years later. My kid's mother asked the question if I would pass this to my children, now I'm starting to wonder. I don't know what this world is coming to...I sure do not think we can set around and wait for the government to save us. Not to mention there promotion of big pharma meds and you know we flush that stuff out and it goes somewhere. There are so many avenues of pollution it is mind boggling. Quote:

I think the problem of the "disappearing male" is more of a primal thing than a chemical thing. Has anyone else noticed the difference between men of today and men of twenty years ago? Twenty years ago, men were men, they had facial hair, were big cause they had to be not cause they wanted to look good, they had attitude like men, they were aggressive, they drank beer, swore, and worked hard for they're money. They expected to be treated like men and wouldn't take a handout from anyone no matter how desperate they were. They held themselves to a higher standard and refused to back down or slack off cause they couldn't stand to think that it might make them less of a man.
The men of today (new generation) are fundamentally different I think. They have a sense of entitlement that I can't understand. They think things should be given to them, not earned, and they drink martini's (of various fruit flavor). They shave to look like little boys, they go to the gym to look good not to be strong, they don't demand respect without saying anything, and they whine about the most trivial of stuff. My generation (I'm 28) was I believe the first of the wusses... with a few exceptions. Young men today don't feel the need to earn respect, money, or social status. They had parents that told them they could have whatever they wanted but neglected to tell them they had to earn it. And what's worse is these men are having kids, and raising them to be self righteous little punks. I see it all the time, kids looking at me like I did something wrong after demanding respect, they just don't get it. I will never understand the change or why it happened, but it sucks for the future of "men" in this nation.

I think cultural break down goes both ways (as far as gender goes) and may carry more weight via social engineering, than chemical breakdown of the gene pool via pollution.

It goes both ways for sure... women aren't any better. The topic was men though so I kinda went with that. I think though if men were more like men then perhaps women would be more like women... maybe.

You may have something there... I had a class recently that broke down the Boomer, Gen X, and Millennium generations, in a class conversation. Defiantly some big changes going on from one to the other.

Its just what I've noticed... mostly centers around this huge false sense of entitlement that the new generation has, and for no reason... its sad I think.

I don't think the media would matter if the parents were still teaching good values and work ethic.

The system has evolved into one where the state raises children - poorly.
Parents are too busy working.

There is such a huge influence by peers and the media on kids, it supercedes what parents teach. There is only so much a parent can do. We are not Gods!
