for his outstanding work in Iraq of keeping the troops in country for a undefined term of time, for further escalating the war in Afghanistan and expanding it into the sovereign Pakistan, for threading the sovereign and peaceful Iran with war, for further escalating the war on drugs in central and south america, for building a mobil missile defense system that would rob other atomic powers from retaliating in the case of an US first strike. Yeah, he needs this price bad.

Hey, we just have to look at the positive side. He hasn't started any new wars. (R O F L)
well the Iran is still in work, you got to give Obama till next spring for that, but be reassured the next new war will come. His cousin Bush was already busy on that one so why waste his work?
and was it the old fashion rule of politics, you mess up at home you have to concentrait on foreign politics and start a war. Well, at home it is one huge mess, his bailout failed as promised and economy is in the trash, this healthcare monster is domed to failure - either now or once it is enacted and the true cost arise - so it is about time to start a war with someone. And lately they been busy with setting up the Iran as you can tell for yourself by following the mainstream media - so the question is not where but when it will happen.
besides, his venture into Pakistan can be seen as "starting a new war" - the trick is only that the US is by doing so attacking a nuclear power of their own grace, guess Mr Smartass misted that little fact before he planned to carpet bomb Pakistan...

Lol. I appreciate the domed to failure. I kinda see it like that too.
I dunno... from where I am sitting he deserves the nobel prize just for getting himself elected. You have no idea how the world outside the USA has breathed a humongus sigh of relief
It is quite a feat I suppose, but considering the fact that any other possibilities were squashed by the nature of our election process says something as well. If he weren't in one of the two ruling parties (effectively our single ruling party) we wouldn't be talking about him right now.
So maybe comparatively he looks better, but I think we can do better than a relative improvement. And perhaps he can as well. He promised as much.
i got up this morning, turned on the local news, and saw that. I almost dropped my bowl of cereal. i voted for and support Obama..... but couldn't wrap my head around this. "Nobel Peace Prize?", I said, "for.....what?". and i still can't figure this out. especially because apparently in order to receive this, that means he was nominated just after he was elected. so he was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize.....for his efforts to getting elected? For his work in the public? For his peace efforts overseas? None of these seem to fit. There is nothing extraordinary that I think I can point to and say "You know what? I think that deserves a Nobel Peace Prize".
Deep down I feel this is just some political prize. Hell, the press secretary couldn't even point to why, he said something along the lines of "this is for everyone.....blah blah blah..... this is a Nobel Peace Prize for America....bull bull bull."
WTF is that? I hate to go here, and I don't mean any offense to African Americans.....but did Obama just get a Nobel Peace Prize for being elected the first black president? I cringe typing that, because it sounds so wrong to say and borderline racist/supremacist rhetoric. But seriously, that is what went through my mind. I dunno what to make of the situation.
Then again..... they also gave one to Al Gore.....
*edit* they also said "Nobel officials said their stunning pick was meant to build momentum behind Obama's initiatives to reduce nuclear arms, ease tensions with the Muslim world and stress diplomacy and cooperation rather than unilateralism."

i figure that they are running out of candidates so they go for the 'least' warrior amongst us? i dunno... i cant figure it out.. it seams that now even the only biased prizes for man's achievements have become caught up in the craziness....
if theres someone who should get it how about the president/prime minister/ king of bhutan? or ... ... ive run out of people that deserve it... hey. if no-one deserves the prze they should give it out just for the sake of giving it out...
its not a goal.. its a prize for past achievements? and i fail to see what his achievement was... why not give it to Ron Paul for his one man stand against americas foreign poicicies for all it was worth...
i think he should give it back, because his nomination is an insult to all those that got it before him (except al gores... another publicity stunt.. i guss they are running out of candidates..) we should write to the nobel comity to protest this abomination
No I think their intent might actually be to give him something to live up to. Though Ron Paul is probably more deserving by past achievements based on peace. He's managed to not support quite a number of our worst actions.
My man BO emails me. (This was received after 5:00pm btw, well after the reactions.)
"Dear redacted,
This morning, Michelle and I awoke to some surprising and humbling news. At 6 a.m., we received word that I'd been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for 2009.
To be honest, I do not feel that I deserve to be in the company of so many of the transformative figures who've been honored by this prize -- men and women who've inspired me and inspired the entire world through their courageous pursuit of peace.
But I also know that throughout history the Nobel Peace Prize has not just been used to honor specific achievement; it's also been used as a means to give momentum to a set of causes.
That is why I've said that I will accept this award as a call to action, a call for all nations and all peoples to confront the common challenges of the 21st century. These challenges won't all be met during my presidency, or even my lifetime. But I know these challenges can be met so long as it's recognized that they will not be met by one person or one nation alone.
This award -- and the call to action that comes with it -- does not belong simply to me or my administration; it belongs to all people around the world who have fought for justice and for peace. And most of all, it belongs to you, the men and women of America, who have dared to hope and have worked so hard to make our world a little better.
So today we humbly recommit to the important work that we've begun together. I'm grateful that you've stood with me thus far, and I'm honored to continue our vital work in the years to come.
In his 1895 will, Alfred Nobel stipulated that the peace prize should go "to the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between the nations and the abolition or reduction of standing armies and the formation and spreading of peace congresses."
