Rep Power: 74 | | But those countries continue to have 'their' cultures in tact Let me see if I understand all this.... IF YOU CROSS THE NORTH KOREAN BORDER ILLEGALLY YOU GET 12 YEARS HARD LABOR. IF YOU CROSS THE IRANIAN BORDER ILLEGALLY YOU ARE DETAINED INDEFINITELY. IF YOU CROSS THE AFGHAN BORDER, YOU GET SHOT. IF YOU CROSS THE TURKEY BORDER ILLEGALLY, YOU SPEND THE REST OF YOUR LIFE IN PRISON! BUT, IF YOU CROSS THE U..S. BORDER ILLEGALLY YOU GET: A DRIVERS LICENSE A SOCIAL SECURITY CARD WELFARE FOOD STAMPS AND, FREE HEALTH CARE?

Why are you comparing the US to such oppresive countries though?
Surely you don't wish for us to adopt the policies of north Korea or Iran...
In North Korea they eat the bark off trees cause they are starving. I also don't think illegal immigrants are getting social security, at least I know my wife had to jump through quite a few hoops when she was legally immigrating to get hers. The DL depends on the state you are in. Healthcare is free to anyone who needs it, upfront at least. And I would not want to live in a country where we demand a credit card before we give people emergency treatment. And I certainly don't want to have to prove I am a US citizen before they start emergency surgery.

Illegal immigrants cannot legally receive social security. It doesn't happen. If such a person were to use your SSN for employment, the end result would be that they would be paying into your social security account and not to their benefit. Anything they would do to your account otherwise is illegal.
Also, I'm not sure how culture is supposed to play into this.

Rep Power: 115 | | `i think i understand what you meant by your post.
that, essentially, the U.S. has degraded as a whole, culturally and morally, due to lax border security and the fact that you are treated like a 'citizen' when caught in most circumstances. basically, hey, if you get caught, there is no real consequence. worst case scenario it's game over and you have to start the mission over.
my opinion:
that is, if you have been able to go undetected for awhile, and because of that, the US government feels you are owed some sort of prize which can come in different, clever shades of 'citizenship'.
of course some people also call this diversity. i call it a cancer that has eaten away at the core of our country in every way.
i know that those are very broad statements, and indeed could be expounded upon almost exponentially*, given the components of the argument, but i don't have the bud or the motivation to do so. *word play is fun

every American (except a minority of natives) are immigrants. American culture is a conglomeration of the world's cultures. You can't kill that with immigration, only strengthen it imo.
I think we need to make legal immigration easier, and illegal more difficult.

i agree with your second statement. that would make things a lot safer, and should have been focused on from the beginning.
of course hindsight is 20/20.
