Default When the munchies take over

How hard of a time do you have with dealing with the munchies. The for me the dreaded munchies will start to hit me when the buzz is starting to come down. Right out of the blue I will all of a sudden be witnessing that peanut butter cup in my hand heading towards my now wide opened mouth, I if lucky, I stop my hand from coming any closer, I put the peanut chocolaty delight down and run for all I have.. I will go for a walk, go fishing or spend time with my ladies, anything to keep me away from food. But even with that, sometimes hours will have passed by and the munchies will still be there.

I haven't been smoking too much in the past year, mostly because I wasn't able to grow my own last season and also I won't and can't pay the prices they want for a bag. I was sick last summer and kind of had a life altering experience so with that I really took notice on what I needed to do to be healthier and happier with myself. So one of those things was too lose some very unwanted for many years now, unwanted heavy to carry around weight. I have lost over fifty pounds and am looking and feeling great. Another thing I need to change is these pills that the doctors have me on for the pain I suffer each day and for what ever else that ails me. With research I have thought it be better for me if I was to use mmj instead of the pills that are affecting my liver and other health issues.. This might sound absolutely crazy for some of you but my concern with getting the mmj for my pain and all is that I will be gaining all of that unhealthy weight back....Does anyone else ever feel this way, is it a problem for you and what do you do to keep from runny to the frig.

Hi deb,
I have found no way to keep from eating when the munchies hit, and do they hit hard. If I was not physically active all day, I would probably weigh 300lbs. I have lately, and so far been successful at, not having the unhealthy foods in the kitchen. My MMJ doctor was on my case this last appointment. He talked me into a challenge, which is to be at 220 by my next appointment in March. I felt real good at that weight being 6'2". I like my MMJ doctor better than my regular doc so I don't want to disappoint him, plus win the challenge, at all cost. So to sum it up, I don't have the junk in the house anymore. When I get the munchies I eat a fruit smoothie of a big bowel of carrots stuff like that.

Deb, I plan for it. I lost 60 lbs after seperating from my ex. (plus the 240 just him leaving!) I got it being depressed and hated it. So I have changed what I buy, and what I plan for a snack. I buy good quiaity food, none of my loves, cookies, and chocolate, at least not usually, I buy healthy stuff that I love and that are good for my health. My favorite, to die for and now I have my daughter hooked on it too, is astro baltic vanilla yougurt, (it is made with real yougurt culture not geletin, which comes from beef bones) mixed with a sliced banana, a 1/4 to half cup blueberries, fresh or frozen for antioxident, a handful of almonds, great for skin and health, no salt and with the skin on,a few, not too many raisins, and occasionally I might put a handful of cerial in it. stir it up and enjoy. It is so good, it is full of fruit, dairy, fiber, little sugar, and it tastes like heaven! I can have a tub of that and not feel in the least guilty because I have saved this part of my food intake just for this.

Peace

I know the draw of the icecream! LOL! plus my sweetie had a heart attack last year so we watch our fat and salt and sugar and white flour intake. If it is white it ain't right, at least with food!

Back AWAY from the icecream!

And if ya do eat it, enjoy every damn bite and then don't buy it again for a while. I also find you have to get rid of the guilts. It is not at all constructive. It is not like someone has a book of rules and they are sitting remotely and judging you. I have had a problem with wieght off and on all my life. I have found that keeping good hand foods round, a basket of GOOD apples, bananas, what you like, handy. Then grab that when the urge strikes. Having 4 apples will not only make you go to the bathroom well, (for your other problem) it will also give you fewer calories and they taste good. satisfiing. and eat is slowly.....it will fill you better that way. One other thing. STAY AWAY FROM POP AND LOADS OF JUICES. Especailly artificially sweetened ones. they are worse than the ones with sugar in them for you. Did you know a can of pop with aspertaine in it, left anywhere that it goes over 90 degrees can then contain formaldihyde in it due to a chemical reaction? scary aiy?

It is changing the way you eat for your lifetime that keeps the wieght off. Finding new things that rock your world and don't have any calories. It works for me anyway?

Peace

I too stay away from the white breads and noodles, like you say, white aint right, Grapes is a great snake food to keep around, something to put in your hands so ya don't grab for the bad stuff. Both my daughter and I are trying to live the healthy way, it helps having someone around living it with you. I'm so happy to see her doing this as a young woman instead of waiting till she really needs too. I recently found something to keep me busy and creative. I've decided, for the first time in my life I am going to learn how to do an inside grow.

I love Granny Smith apples cut into wedges and either dipped in peanut butter or eaten bite for bite with a good Colby cheese.

Jerky is another favorite, however, I've noticed lately that meat doesn't agree with me anymore. I still eat it occasionally but I think I could ALMOST become a vegetarian. If I had a steady supply of fresh fruits and vegetables, I don't think I would miss meat all that much. I could live happily on things from my own garden, providing I had the time to devote to cultivating it.

Some other favorite snacks are radishes (you simply cannot eat enough of them to gain any weight) and sugar snap peas. OMG! To die for.

I'm a fruitaholic. I start with strawberries in the spring, then move on to cherries, then peaches, apricots, assorted berries, pears, apples... Oh my! hehe I like to supplement my fruit diet with home grown cucumbers, tomatoes...

Deb, you really shouldn't talk about food around a bunch of MEDICATED people. hehe

Default It feels like a holiday

Sunday morning by the fire pit, a good cup of coffee and roasting smores. Thats what my granddaughter and I are doing while the rest of the crew are still sleeping. This is my best time of a weekend day. I know smores isn't the best of breakfastes but if it counts we had grapes earlier. All junk food is out of the house, it got eaten last night by everyone. I did have some icecream and enjoyed it with every slow bite. So I got stoned, and yes I got the munchies ( but not too awefully bad ) and had a great time all the way around with good company... So now is the time to get back on track, I'm work on my munchies addiction so that I can count on myself to be good while having to use the pot for my pain and well being, or just for the heck of relaxing. I had a couple of tokes this morning while sitting by the fire, and in case I do get the munchies, I have a large bowl of grapes to keep me satisfied. And here I go back out to the morning fire, I love living in the country....

hi there Deb. I used to struggle with the munchies terribly. Have you ever noticed that after you've stuffed your face, your high has diminished? I did some experimenting with different foods. I have found if I drink fruit juice, or fresh fruit rather than gorging myself.... I can kill my munchy cravings and still keep that great high. My personal favorite is Bolthouse farm juices. Carrot or Strawberry Banana smoothie. They are all natural, and it seems to do the trick for me. Try it and see if it helps you any... what do you have to lose??

The munchies are a HUGE problem for me, too. In fact, I can only deal with it by NOT smoking often! Because IF I smoked daily I would soon go right back UP to the 200 lbs. I've finally gone DOWN from. Like you, I cant bear to gain back the hard-lost pounds...but it makes me angry that I have to refrain from smoking. It's just...wrong! HOW do people smoke daily and NOT get fat?

I cannot control my munchies. Im like a wild animal. Chocolate, of course, it tops--but Im not above eating peanut butter with a spoon, either. There's no suxh thing as a "small" serving when the dreaded MUNCHIES attack. I have no control.
I hate it--Especially when Ive shown restraint all day, eating wisely...then try to smoke two or three hits in the evening only to find myself eating half a jar of JIFF before bed. It makes the entire day of healthy eating irrelevant.
I wish I had an answer...but aside from refraining from smoking, I have none.
sigh.
Dixie

You've heard, "Money is the root of all evil." If you don't have money you can't buy munchies. hehe Therefore I have lost 30 pounds in 3 months or so. Oh, add in some stress for the perfect weight loss prescription. :-(

Honestly though, allow only healthy snacks into the house. Fruit, vegetables, cheese sticks, that sort of thing. I keep snacks on hand that allow me to eat my fill and not gain weight. Radishes are a favorite cause there is the crunch, good water content (I never drink enough), and Orville Redenbacker's Smart Pop popcorn is good too. Great flavor and you can eat the whole bag and there are only about 30 calories or something.

Ya I can feel what you say. You know if I just walk out the door and start walking and keep walking for a mile or two, that my way of dealing with the huge munchies. I just have to do it, and I'm going to enjoy it much more then eating, I just have to get my feet walking. I love taking a couple of hits and head out with my camera. I feel so creative and calm right then and was able to get high with out that feeling of being stuffed or that, I'm not going to eat, on my mind all the time,, Nice meeting you Dixie, thanks for coming around

Yeah, but dressing is fattening. I clean up a big bag of them and just crunch away. Best to get them in the summer when they are 5 bunches for $1. :-)

Or grow them...they really grow fast and seeds are cheap. My mum loves radishes, so she can have my share...LOL!

i love all things peanut butter but it mixed with honey is by far the best, but with bananas is most definately a close second.

I did go and stock up on healthy snacks for work since I tend to nibble constantly at work. Got my radishes, some sugar snap peas, blueberries, strawberries and got one sinful snack, an apple fritter (what? it has apples in it!) and when I ate it it made me sick as a dog. Put me flat on my back for an hour. :-( Will I never learn? hehe
