Default Alcohol-based Tincture

Alcohol-based Tincture
You need to use alcohol with high proof, the higher the better, for this I use Everclear, or generic equivilent. I have heard of some people using their favorite alcohol with fairly good results, but the higher the proof the better the extraction.

Add the amount of cannabis that you desire for potency. I added 8 oz of roughly trimmed (finger trimmed the leaves off) cannabis to 1 1/2 gallons of alcohol. For your personal preference add more cannabis or less depending on desired potency. I blend mine, using a coffee grinder, blender or if you are lucky enough to have a Vita Mix. Make sure there is no other product matter in whatever you use. I use a clean basting brush to clean out my Vita Mix when I am done powdering my cannabis.

Place in a glass container and shake once per day for about a month. You will notice that the liquid will get green-black and the plant material will get lighter and lighter green as time passes.

When ready to strain use cheesecloth and a strainer to extract the cannabis debris, the THC has been extracted and the tincture is ready to use. The best way to store is in a glass amber bottle. A good place to obtain a large bottle for the bulk of your tincture is a brewery store that has supplies to make wine or beer.

Personal Preference:To store use amber colored glass containers I didn't want to use only one container for a whole gallon so I use 1/2 gallon amber glass bottles from my local brewery store, yes this is another cost but remember it is one you only have to make once and you reuse these containers.

Lily,

Dumb question, I know...but...well, I don't know much about cookin'..

Does the alcohol base evaporate? Reason I ask is, alcohol causes me no end of problems with my illness...;-(

Yukon Jack was my favorite for so many years...had to give it up 2 years ago, but enjoyed it nightly with ice-water blended. Now, it would make me spin like a top!

If no alcohol survives the process, I'll definately give it a try! Would be far easier to take on outings than that alternative smokable version.

Menarian,

I'm 99.9% sure that the alcohol is still present and *is* the vehicle for introducing the THC to the blood system in this method.

BT: Then I probably best leave this one alone. Sounded good though!

I've seen where alcohol is used in making hash..I LOVE hash, and plan to make me some from the leftovers from this grow. Hope that evaporates it out, cause I'm making it anyway!

I know if you use Isopropanol it evaporates completely.. but even so.. once the alcohol base evaporates you are left with cannabis oil, don't even try to take a shot of this stuff, you'll be baked for a month!

You can place the finished product in a pot of water just under the boiling point.

This will evaporate the alcohol.
This is also concetrating your solution.

You would want to stop before you remove more than half of the liquid.

Iso2bewell.
When it is concentrated like this you can add it to other things a drop at a time.

This greatly decreases the amount of alcohol you would take in.

I would think maybe 2-4 cc at most would be plenty for a 6 hour high.
Maybe less. All depends on how strong the brew is and how concentrated your end product is.

Default Getting the alcohol out...a favorite...

Take equal parts alcohol and honey and bring up to heat just so that the alcohol evaporates (trust me you can smell it). When the amount is like syrup and the alcohol has evaporated you have some wonderful honey that I use in tea.

You can also take the alcohol, find a hard candy recipe and the alcohol will evaporate and then the effective medicine will be in your candy.
