Every family or group of friends have their little stories. Usually after the fact the application or relationship to life becomes apparent. Here is one of "Our" family urban legends.

This happened a few years ago. My dear man's ex wife was at his house with her dog and thier children, picking up or dropping off, doesn't matter. Her dog came up to her cheerfully chewing on something. She managed to get him to drop it, and then bent over to pick it up. With it in her hand she shouted "Uhhh take this it is Cat shit!" He turns to her and said "No, I know it is cat shit, why would I take it? You throw it out." She still tried futally to pass it to him, till light dawned he truely was not going to take it, and she disposed of it.

At the time, it was very funny but the similarity to life is unmistakable. Why pick something up if you know it is cat shit? This can be many things we have in commen with other people, but it truely applies to what we ALLOW into our minds and lives.

Unfortuanatly my son is very troubled. He knows what he has to do (get a job, go back to school, something) but goes in tailspins to avoid it and makes all in his life miserable due to his not dealing with things. It hurts me as a parent to see this. As it hurts any parent when their child is not doing the best they can. I cannot carry this load for him or FIX it. It is not possible for any one to FIX anyone else. They have to. All I can do is repeat over and over "Start something, go foreward, all you have is now, the past is history, tomorrow is a mystery, all you have is now, a gift, and that is why it is called the Present".

The same is true of everything in life. We cannot make someone stop drinking, or stop gambling or anything else in their life that is destructive. They have to. By worreing and being depressed for someone else, no matter what it is, all we do is pick up the cat shit, and enable them not to deal with things. And also harm ourselves. We CAN repeat over and over the same message, strongly and supportively, but they have to put the cat shit in the garbage, you can't do it for them. By giving clear boundries and limitations, we help them deal with thier anger, disease, sadness, depression, whatever one near to us has as their burden and from loving them, troubles us.

We can't fix their problems.....or pick up the Cat shit.

...and yes, ISO, I do understand. I had to write it, maybe more than YOU can understand. We give them love, our hearts, our souls, and always they have a piece of us, where ever they are or whatever they do. The rest is truely up to them....and it is very very hard NOT to pick up the cat shit....

good lord, if i didnt know any better id say i have a twin... tailspinning is sooooo easy!

thankyou so much jangel. ill take up the message as i would if my mother had said it herself. actually more so cause the message reminds me of my mum saying things like that and i usually go all grumpy when she does cause i know shes spot on.. any way thanks for reminding me of my mum.
