Default Your FAVORITE place to indulge?

Johnnyappleweed had showed a pic of his pet wild licard in another thread.,

VERY cool lizard! We don't get many of those up here (lizards, that is..LOL).

Seems we have all got our "special" spot to just sit, jell and enjoy the ambiance of an evening. I know I sure do...

Just had a new partial deck built out back (we had half of it done and that
section is 10' X 36'...waiting to do the 20' x 20' extension). The river runs behind the house here (directly) and I like to sit out on the deck, smoke a fat jay and watch the water flowing by. From that deck I see deer, eagles, beaver and river otter on a regular basis. Not to mention the salmon jumping in the eddys when they are running (not this week).

If I post pics everyone will hate me... ...but will take some this afternoon (but you're welcome anytime and the coffee and "herbs" are always on! )

I too, have a river in my back yard. However, mine is in the middle of a town and quite small and shallow. I see some wildlife though. Lots of birds; cardinals, finches, song sparrows, woodpeckers, etc. Also, a woodchuck chew through my cedar fence. 'possums, squirrels, snapping turtles, and other small animals can be observed from the bank.

Thanks ISO! Glad you started this thread. As has been said before, I have a screened in front porch. Looks out onto my front garden. I watch the hummingbirds drink from the flowers, bees buzz and listen to the lions roar and the wolves howl, as well as the birds. LOL! I know, ya think I am crazy! On the road I live there are 3 animal sanctuaries. Used to be 5! Must be the lay lines I guess! So we have two with lions and tigers and bears, one with monkees, so occasionally you can here them, and one man up the road breeds wolves. They are not local wolves, but from out of this province as it is illegal to keep local wolves for breeding. There used to be a Canadian wildlife sanctuary as well as one that raised lizards and snakes. I used to have peacocks, and so did my friend that had the Canadian sanctuary. So on a summers night you could here wolves howling, tigers and lions roaring, and peacocks calling away. Made you feel as if you where in a tropical jungle. Very wonderful thing to do. occasionally you can here coyotes as well. They are getting bolder now as many have bred with dogs, so they are losing their fear of people. That is scary though. We have undisclosed hunts on them, as they kill animals, dogs cats, farm animals. It is not legal but ya gotta do what ya gotta do, and I don't have anything to do with that, but I do support this. I know, but if you have ever seen a small child being stalked by a coyote, you would too. It happened when my kids where small, but they did not know. scared the you know out of me. We have even had an escaped tiger here. They caught it not far from my house, just behind it. We would get up in the morning and see the huge paw prints pacing around our barn, trying to get in to our chickens. That was when my kids where small. They did not like not being allowed out though! LOL!

Peace

We have trained the bushes to grow up and screen our front porch from view, we camseeout but people on the sidewalk can't see in.It's really amusing when we are smoking a spliff out there and people walking by smell it. you can see them looking around trying to figure where it's coming from.

Default yep, enjoying the yard it the shiznit

I too am a yard sitter

I have about 6 butterfly bushes...they bring monarch, swallotails, and my favorite hummingbird moths...they actually look like flying crayfish...plus more bees wasps moths and butterflies than I can ever identify

as for mamals I love the baby rabbits, the chipmonks, squirels, and the big fat woodchuck...bigger than my beagle

love the birds..the chickadees are friendly as are the titmice...the goldfinches are beautiful...the morning doves are nice too but they are the hawks favorite food

reptiles and amphibs - well the toads are nice, and the garder snakes are cool to...but I like the box turtle the most

I just love sittin' in the yard watchin' things grow, fly, walk, slither, and climb...and the humming bird seems to always build her nest one week before my b-day each year

I don't plant much just encourage the native growth I like...ferns, violets, mostly

It is hard to believe so many wonderful creatures can be right in front of you in a suburban environment...in the summer with the heavy leaf growth my yard seems islolated but it is three houses away from a busy street...and it is less than an acre

oh yeah the deer, turkey, and owls

sometimes I feel like I died and heven is my own little nature preserve

so come over fire up a fatty and lets contemplate all that is good in the universe

Yes, Jimmy, I know what you mean. I have bamboo matchstick blinds on my porch so we can see out but they can't see in! Makes it like a linia I think they call it in tropical countries, a cooling bridge before the house. Keeps our brick house cooler all summer.

Default In the summer time

I live in the southeast.I moved down here for the winters avg temp is in the mid 50* (great for attic gardening) Unfortunitly these hot and humid summers come along with the territory. But let me tell you,as most of our members will agree, their is nothing like being with nature while buzzing.
I wish I could be with you guy's on the rivers/streams, see I bought myself a fly rod last season and have been practicing ever since(It only takes a few hours to learn how to cast, but it takes a lifetime to perfect)
There is alot to be said about flycasting,I grew up fishing and hunting but had never tried flycasting. Now I don't think I can go back. It's so much more challenging without bait. I have a great recipe for wild salmon..

I just caught the the other thread where j-angel is talking about Friendly Giant. My favorite chair was the rocker " for those who like to rock" . Rusty and Jerome, the kitten chorus, "Look up, look way up" Is there a Canadian who grew up in the fifties or sixties who doesn't have fond memories of the Friendly Giant?

Yes, and his peaceful, deep voice. Very fond memories Jimmy. You got it all! I loved that show! "...and the big arm chair for someone to curl up in.."

Peace
