Default I've been researching..

Hey all, I guess this is my first real big post back so.

Anyways, in my absense of ganja to smoke because of certain meds, I have gone adventuring into a legal herb world. I've found a few nice ones some of which could enhance marijuana's effects a great deal, especially with anxiety and sleep problems some of us suffer through.

I ordered a pack from an online vendor of mixed herbs, and separated out a few to what I THINK they are.

The ones that have helped me through my sober times are

Blue lotus/lily- Smoked it doesn't have a very noticeable effect, besides losing some muscle tension. I added a great deal of this, with other herbs into a tea, and it made me feel much lighter, no mood change, but if I had bud I'd have been REALLY floating.

Passion Flower-It had no noticeable effects on it's own, only when added to other herbs did it have a mild mood lift.
This one came in small amounts, and should be used in small amounts if you are using any anti depressants. it IS an MAOI and therefore can be dangerous.
DO NOT TAKE WITH KANNA

kratom : Kratom is what made up most of my burning/tea blend, and it does provide a calming sedate(possibly euphoric at high doses) state after drinking a glass of tea made with it. I only noticed that throughout the sedation, and afterwards, I had neck tension and afterwards it gave an alcohol like hangover. so I cut the dose in half on this one

Kava kava- This is my next in line to try, some places have kavalacetone tablets(the active ingredient) for sale online. Kava is supposed to be a sedating herb with a high cieling of effects. meaning you can take a large amount before it stops getteing better. I'll report back once my kava kava arrives.

Kanna- it's supposed to be stimulating, but on the other hand it is a natural SSRI. It will make you stay up for a long time if you decide to drink a cup of this before bed, but on the other hand, smoking a bowl, or even taking a caplet of the powdered herb is enough ti give a mild uplift to mood, and a little bit of a spacey feeling.
DO NOT TAKE WITH PASSION FLOWER

Remember, I'm not saying that any of these compare to great homegrown, and most of these herbs are not noticed much at all unless taken together or with bud. but they can add to it's medical effects for muscle tension, anxiety, and sleep problems. I would recommend these out of a vaporizer or in a tea. there is a noticeable difference betweena tea and a bowl. Probably because the active ingredients in some of these herbs are broken down by extreme heat.

Hope this helps all my ailing buddies.

Hey Kie,

I've been told (and have no direct experience) that passionflower can be used to enhance psychadelics such as LSD and DMT by increasing the absorbtion through the blood-brain barrier. I would wonder if it would have this same effect with MJ. Might be worth looking into.
Later, 4kaan4

4kaan, what you probably read was that MAOi's break down the monoxidase enzyme, which somewhat breaks down LSD, DMT and DXM. DMT is completely useless without an MAOI because it is metabolized VERY fast by these enzymes, hence without them a very intense trip can occur. It doesn't, however, have anything to do with the blood brain barrier.

Remember, DMT containing plants were VERY common as food in bible times. No, everyone was not tripping balls, but if they ate the right combination they would see "religious" visions of angels and demons

DMT has also been linked to states of deep sleep. Some say (forget who besides joe rogan LOL) that a DMT trip is very much like a dream in that, its a very intense visual experience that once you come down from/wake up from within minutes around 90% of memory for the experience is lost. DMT is also made by the pineal gland, or the supposed 3rd eye. I've never done it before but from the sounds of it, seems to be a bit too intense for me. Ill stick with shrooms making the trees sway, i dont need to talk to alien creatures and have them enter and exit all points of my body using only light. maybe later on in life

I am a big fan of chamomile tea. 2 tea bags in about 1 1/2 oz of water before bed , KNOCKS me out. I've always wondered what would happen if you smoked it instead of making tea. I dont know why I've never tried. Has anybody tried doing that , smoking chamomile?
Also Valerian Root is a strong seditive, but gives me a hangover.

yes, valerian root can give hangovers when it's used too often for sleep. I have tried chamomile through a vaporizer and a bong, and the vap actually had an effects, no tiredness, more of a melting into my chair type of feeling.

As I write this I'm trying my first pink lotus bowl, unfortunately I can't attribute to it's effects with our green friend.

After my first toke, I can say it does feel like a very mild mix of opiates and pot, about half the potency of each, but together it is a nice mellowing feeling.
It does have a calming effect, but it also relieved a headache I had beforehand.
So it does have a painkilling compound, which is chemically similar to opiates, yet because it does not bind with opiate receptors it is FAR less addicting.
I would say that this would be a very good thing to add to a bowl or teabag before bed.

Just watch anything that is an MAOi's or inhibitors, as it is contra indicated for people with heart problems and can cause severe health problems for some people. Like death. That is pretty severe. OR counteract your medications. Also, be very careful with this, if you have to have surgery etc. as some things can inhibit blood coagulating. You could bleed out. Kiea knows what he is doing, just be aware of other affects it can have on you.

Peace

You're absolutely right, NEVER use any herb without doing proper research on any side effects, and contraindications with other drugs.
Certain herbs used as teas can have blood thinning or clotting effects.

My method of pre research is:
Find out the indigenous uses of this herb, and what it treats.
Find out any and all active chemicals that are in said herb.
Find as much information about how these chemicals affect the human body, and brain.
If there is not adequate information on interactions of the active chemicals with current medications, I then look at the class of drug the active chemical is in If it DOES have an interaction it is best to stay away.

a good example of drug interactions is nuciferine, aporphine, and opiods. the first two synergize with each other and are found in most lotus species. If a lotus extract is mixed with a strong opiate/opiod like hydrocodone or morphine, respiratory depression can result since nuciferine and aporphine are chemically related to opiates. Imagine if you were using blue lotus as a sleep aid, and had to take opiates for an injury right before bed. you might not wake up the next morning, so be carefull with what you mix.

Kieahtoka...I really enjoyed this thread...it made me consider just how important it is to really get in touch with what effects things are having on me...no just trying things but researching and examining the effects in an very scientific manner...I am sure this approach will stand you in good stead.
