Lightbulb interesting tax question

So I know you can deduct medical expenses on your taxes..

so i wonder could a person also include the costs of cannabis prescription/recommendation and costs associated with setting up a grow?

In Canada I can write off everything associated with grow set up and costs of nutes etc. Not sure about US. Call an accountant and ask the question maybe.

Maybe for state tax... but, for the feds? Are you serious? I don't think violating federal law is a deductible, my good man.

you only need to prove it if you are audited ;-)

but i am of the mindset that yes it is tax deductible. but i guess it would determine HOW you claim it and the legality of the state.

Consider this: what if you produced an identical setup and grew wheat-thistle or green tea, herbs that doctors recommend regularly and that are generally regarded as medicinal and sold in grocery stores. then how tax deductible would it be? you dont have to say WHAT herb seeds youre growing but that you bought a light and seeds for your medical condition. WHAT youre growing is between you and your Dr and thats protected privacy :-D

I wouldn't risk it man... the IRS is increasingly scrutinizing people for things they didn't pay attention to ten or even five years ago. The fact that our country is running out of money, or has run out of money, is making them take notice and make sure they get every dime from every person.

I would just consider this... the cost of my equipment and nutes and stuff for my set up was around seven hundred bucks. I've gotten two harvests out of what I originally bought and have about 12oz I didn't have to buy. So in six months it has actually saved me about three hundred on herb that I would have otherwise had to buy. Its like a personal tax write off, but wouldn't try it with the Fed.

that is true too...but at the same time ill be damned if the Man is gunna get something from me that he shouldnt. i know our taxes pay for stuff and things but there is still way too much govt gluttany. id be more than happy to keep $300 more from the Man by writing off supplies....where there is a will there is a way to find a category to write it off. just be creative and not stupid hehe.
