Default Here we go again.

Here's the the back story so I won't confuse anyone. Every once in a long time my parents decide to try and take me back to conventional medicine, if I decline they start accusing me of being a pot junkie and I could guess an intervention is not far off, glad it's never gone that far.

Anyways,I always give these medicines a chance to help me out and it's cheaper than pot so each time I go in with an open mind. I've got anxiety, migraines, and some undiagnosed stomach problem which causes me to wake up nauseous. I got prescribed celexa, a SSRI antidepressant, and nexium. well lemme give you a laundry list on the first one. I'll bold the ones that I've got after my first dose, all pretty much happened one after another.. Oh and this one has a high tendency to make marijuana users have anxiety attacks. I may just be being paranoid, but I have a feeling my parents have spoken to my doctor.

Common: Abdominal pain, agitation, anxiety, diarrhea, drowsiness, dry mouth, ejaculation disorders, fatigue, impotence, indigestion, insomnia, loss of appetite, nausea, painful menstruation, respiratory tract infection, sinus or inflammation, sweating, tremor, and / or, vomiting.

Less common: Amnesia, attempted suicide, confusion, coughing, decreased sexual drive, depression, excessive urination, fever, gas, impaired concentration, increased appetite, increased salivation, itching, joint pain, lack of emotion, loss of menstruation, low blood pressure, migraine, muscle pain, rapid heartbeat, rash, skin tingling, taste disturbances, visual disturbances, weight gain, weight loss, yawning
Rare: Abnormal dreams, acne, aggressive behavior, alcohol intolerance, angina ( chest pain ), arthritis, belching, bone pain, breast enlargement, breast pain, bronchitis, bruising, chills, conjunctivitis (pinkeye), decreased muscle movements, delusions, dermatitis, difficulty breathing, difficulty swallowing, dizziness, drug dependence, dry eyes, dry skin, eczema, emotional instability, excessive milk flow, excessive muscle tone, eye pain, fainting, feeling of well-being, flu-like symptoms, flushing, frequent urination, gum inflammation, hair loss, hallucinations, heart attack, heart failure, hemorrhoids, high blood pressure, hives, hot flashes, inability to hold urine, inability to urinate completely, increased sex drive, increased urination, involuntary muscle movements, leg cramps, mouth sores, muscle weakness, nosebleeds, numbness, painful erection, painful urination, panic, paranoia, pneumonia, psoriasis, psychosis, ringing in the ears, sensitivity to light, skin discoloration, slow heartbeat, stomach and intestinal inflammation, stroke, swelling, teeth grinding, thirst, uncontrollable muscle movements, unsteady or abnormal walk, vaginal bleeding.
See physician NOW if: An allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat, swelling of the lips, tongue, or face, or hives), an irregular heartbeat or pulse, low blood pressure ( dizziness, weakness ), high blood pressure ( severe headache, blurred vision ), or
chills or fever.

quite the list, and I can tell you it sucks, but about every year I get to have another reason to smoke my ganja. I'm 19, I didn't even expect to have this stuff everyday till I was like 70.

BTW if anyone's been on this drug or any other one's I'd like ANY suggestions for the crazy side effects of them since pot is unfortunately out for now. I'll be switching medications in less than a week. but till then please bear with my agitativeness, it'll disappear soon.

I hate it that I have t be the example, but I'm evidence that Pot's better than man made medicine all around.

Makes it kinda rough in your situation, but hang in there I am sure your parents mean the very best for you. It shows in that they've supported your MMJ use, having seen the effects of the other meds.

At your age, you have a ton of life ahead of you in the next 50 years, so if you can tough this out soon you'll have a great deal more freedom and control over your life, and it's good to see your parents respect that.

Much the same in my case, just no peeps issues. No other med's can manage these symptoms I have like a good sativa with a bit of body buzz thrown in.

Hey kiea,

Those are some terrible side effects, to take a chance with, to try to feel better. Most conventional medicinal drugs list side effects which are more of a pita than the original problem. I use MJ mainly for lower back/leg pain. I have been prescribed just about all the pain meds and muscle relaxers. Nothing works like MJ. And, of course, the added feeling of well being is appreciated.

We are all with you, in spirit. It doesn't seem fair that someone so young must put up with so much. Attitude plays a HUGE role in healing. You seem to have your sh*t together quite well, and I have confidence that you will come through it with a minimum of pain and anxiety. Get well and be well, my friend.

Hey - it is a difficult and complex situation you are in my friend....for myself I have had problems with major depression almost all of my life and I am in my late 40's now...I am now on an SSRI and it works very well with very minor side effects....at the same time I know personally serveral people that have been prescribed an ever changing cocktail of meds that never seem to be effective and worth the side effects...MJ has definitely increased my depression at times...though now it seems to be no problem at all...I guess in the end you have to keep an open mind and remember that you have to be in charge of your treatment...all drugs including MJ have plenty of positive and negitive effects and there is no "magic bullet"...but with time and patience, sometimes talk therapy, and sometimes meds...I think a person can find balance and effectively cope if not cure things like anxiety depression and mania...hang tough and perhaps try to remember these four words about anything you try..
gentle
gradual
patient
persistent

Kieao, I too have had problems with depression all my life. As has my partner. He is also on a "cocktail" of drugs and wrestles with this all the time. The societal judgement of our parents rings in his ears "am I replacing one problem with another" eg smoking pot. But for him as for me it is "this bowl makes me feel normal, not high" where all the drugs do not. But still that voice of society and our parents rings in our ears "pothead".

Only with time and knowledge will all of us get this stigma changed.

Peace, and know you are not alone in this struggle.

thanks for the help. I'm most likely going to switch, I found out this is the newest SSRI to hit the US. market, all that does is worry me since a year after some drugs come out they are recalled soon after. My pain is gone, and smoking pot only made things worse, it tightened every muscle in my body instead of relaxing me.what I do not understand is why it also made my anxiety skyrocket, I'm finding myself thinking of people planning against me, especially this doctor, but they are easilly dismissed, unlike before when I had few worries, but they nagged constantly. If I'm going to be trading one altered state for anoither much worse one I'll stick with my pot.

Default If At First You Don't Secede Try Try Again

I was about 13 when I was first seen by the shrinks and they had me so doped up on Haldol and some other crap, I didn't know weather I was coming or going;but I floated there.After a week or so of watching me sit around slobbering all over myself my doctor desided to try something else. And boy did he,I don't know what they gave me but it cause lockjaw,my muscles siezed and I could barely move.(I've been nearly electricuted to death and that felt better than what those drugs did to me)I went thru many years of these drug interactions,and after all this the only thing I get true relief from is my weed.But when I was living with my parents;
When I was tired of going with the flow, I would do something underhanded like soil myself/ pee on the kitchen sink floor mat, bathroom rug, clothes hamper etc. and claim no knowledge of doing it. Blaming it on an unseen side effect of the drugs, and they would get me right off it.My parents knew I was capable of being one step ahead of them so I had to stay two or three.

well I got switched.. I think? not sure if it's better or worse. antipsychotics are very sedating, but SSRI's seem to amp me up. I haven't had hardly any side effects from the med, zyprexa, besides drowsiness, cold sweats, and being able to get much more stoned than normal. but that beats everything else I had. My doc never told me to keep taking both or just the second, but for now I'm saying F***it to the celexa.
