One of my favorite books is call “Botany of desire” A plant’s eye view of the world, by Michael Pollan. Pollan takes us beyond the symbionic relationship between plants and humans to a suggested place in which plants manipulate humans into planting them.

He (Pollan) talks about the great war between trees and grass, how flowers appeal to us and he talks about how Marijuana has made itself useful to humans. Don’t miss his chapter on the potato, after reading that I went organic all the way.

Here is the link to Amazon.com but I’m sure you can pick it up anywhere; it’s reasonably priced around $10 US. A very good read.

Enjoy!

Feel free to add your suggested summer reads......

Great Suggestion Tal....I will give it a read,

DJ short takes that theory to a new level, in some of his articles he talks about trichomes as formally independent symbiotes that have now fully integrated with MJ, and have hijacked the plant so that we would propogate it.

What is it Rumi said? "wine is grapes getting drunk with us" or something like that
I think this all started in the modern era witht the scientist Lynn Margoulis who proposed that cellular organels like mitochondria were independent creatures that were eventually integrated with larger more modern cells. Interesting how poets, mystics, philosophers, and scientist often trace the line of cosmic evolution to a deeper shared consciousness....

For the scientist....If you like this line of reasoning I would suggest the short book "the selfish gene" by richard dawkin....which proposes that all living creatures are actually manipulations of DNA propogating itself

For the poet...."leaves of grass" by whitman or anything by william blake

For the philosopher...anything by Ken Wilbur

For the mystic...anything by Thich Nhat Hahn, or Rumi.

Hey, I just might check this out. One question I have, the author, Mr. Pollan, is that his real name? or a clever play on pollen? lol

I thought the same thing but he was on NPR two years ago and said it's his real name.

Oh, naw, man, I love a good read, I just haven't read an actual physical book in quite awhile. The last book I read was John Grisham's The Testament.
An excellent read, a real page turner if you like adventure and mystery.

That is another great summer read. One of Grisham's best.
