| Got Flood?? Of all the things this country has to offer in terms of beauty and scenery, the Pac. NW is one of the best....but it can also get nasty in a hurry!! Yesterday I posted a pic showing the georgeous snow and clear river just wandering through the "backyard"...(Thumb 1) Then, we heard it was supposed to get COLDER...but...wait...OOPS! No, it's not getting colder, but it's going to warm up and rain ...a LOT. It started raining at about midnight last night, and today it hasn't stopped. ALL the snow (6" here) is now gone, and it is melting out of the Mtn's like crazy...yesterday at this time it was 37F, today it is 59F! Second T-nail is of the USGS monitoring station on the river I live on. These are 24 hr. automatically updated measurement sites so the folks that manage the dams, etc. can plan for water release, etc. As of this afternoon, they had the flood gates wide open (to protect the dam itself) on the dams upriver (closest one to me is over 30 miles away). You can see the vertical climb the Cu. Ft. Per Sec. (yes, that's near 40,000 CFS! and it has now gove over 45,000 CFS in the last 30 min.) In the big flood of 2003 the river was at 80,000 CFS..and it is very possible that it could rise to that again tonight/tomorrow. We had this once before, in 2003. It was ugly, but our home was safe above the waters by about 10' (vertically). Before it gets that high it will flood the entire town (actually about 3 towns), so we are pretty safe here, but many folks downriver are already packing up and getting out...as this flood will not peak until late tomorrow...aka...this is just the beginning. Send up some positive Karma and prayers for those about to lose their homes. My Sis in Law called and said their home (about 100 miles from us) was already under water, and in the 20 yrs. they lived there they never once had a worry about flooding. All they got out with was their clothes, and one car. Important papers, etc. are all back at their home and under several feet of water (that they can not get near now due to a bridge and levee being washed out!) And yesterday all I was worried about was if my clones were going to root... ISO

| Here is where the river has crested...and I'm damn glad it only got that far. The red line between 25 and 30' is the level where the flooding starts. It's really ugly out there..smells like silt everywhere, river raging...pretty incredible site to see the POWER of Mother Nature when she gets a bit pissed. ISO

| Ok, was able to get a good pic showing the river, and a tree (mostly underwater) that is about 70'. The root ball alone is hogging out the bottom. Worse yet, our Coho and Chum salmon had just now spawned...meaning a huge majority of their eggs are getting destroyed as these trees scrub the bottom and move hundreds of tons of rock and gravel around. The salmon runs in these rivers will be affected for years to come. Remember all that beautiful, crystal clear water in that pic (of the same spot) from Sunday. LOL!! ISO

| No worries here. I just sit in my office and stare out the window at all the trees, boards and other assorted crap floating by. The blessing is we didn't lose power during it all! Had some pretty good wind last night, and still breezy today. A friend of mine that lives on the WA coast said there was a 98 MPH gust that went through his town yesterday afternoon...flattened a few old sheds, too! Still, we are toasty and comfortable...and plenty of good medicine to pass the time. ISO
