Exclamation Is the future trying to save us from ourselves?

Doomsday in reverse?
Quote:
Is the future trying to save us from ourselves? A series of scientific papers that have been kicking around for a couple of years suggest that if the ever were to find something that shattered the cosmos, the future universe might protect itself by sending a backward-causality wave to break the LHC, or at least warn us.
Sure enough, the LHC is broken - leading The New York Times' Dennis Overbye to wonder half-jokingly whether there was something to the claim after all.
Does that sound spooky? What if I told you that the idea of going back in time to derail out a world-ending particle collider goes back even farther, to a novel written about the fate of the long-canceled Superconducting Super Collider? And that the author of that book is a physicist who has been conducting research into ... backward causality?
you can read the entire article here.

also, you can read about the
Large Hadron Collider here.

personally, this thing has always creeped me out. i mean, why would you want to get that close to the edge of a cliff? when you are that close, you can fall off, you know what i mean? also, if you are going to do something that might affect the entire planet, it might behoove you to ask around and see if anyone has a problem with it. hopefully this project will be scrapped, the materials recycled, and then the outrageous funding could be put to more worthwhile endeavors. its only logical.

I read this the other day...

Interesting read, but I would rate it as amusing, not take it seriously.

Also, what do they mean save us from ourselves? Seems more like they would be trying to save their own asses from us!

Then, you have to ask yourself how the future exists if we rip a hole in time and space and they want to prevent it... huh?

Doesn't ripping a hole in the universe kinda take them out of the picture? LOL

This is a fairly improbable hypothesis being proposed. If it is true, there is another universe just like ours where they made the higgs boson, and that is rippling back through time, breaking our machine before we can create it.

I doubt it, and expect them to create the boson within a year. But hey, I'm no quantum physicist.

If Cramer’s books are as entertaining and well written as David Brin’s ‘Earth’ they should be good reads.
