| Gonna do some shooting today! WooHoo! I'm taking out 3 rifles I aquired in a trade, a .308 model 70, a 7x57 model 70, and a ruger #1 in .22-250. The ruger should be a tack driver, heavy bbl falling block built in 1976. Both model 70's are newer 1990's production oh yeah also taking a resently aquired Glock 22 in .40 cal a preban built in 1988. and if I see a deer........well, you know. ![]() | ||||||||

| 22-250 is a barrel eater, so i wouldn't be to sure if a rifle of 31 years of age will still do good on the range, most 22-250 barrels are done after only 1000 shots fired. but for that 7x57 winchester i would love to find for a trade, the caliber rocks if you handload! and the rifle is great as long the stock is either cut free or switched for a composite/plastic stock. just watch out that the barrel floats free and this thing is a blast. also a really good hunting round with mild recoil and more then good effect on the game. i prefer it over any 7mm mag load. careful with that glock, some of those before 2000 had lose chambers causing cracks in the chamber and barrel - so check that from time to time.

| Other than muzzle-loaders, the last weapon I fired was an M-16. Before that, an M-14. The coolest tho, were the M-60 7.62 and the 50 cal. s. From a helicopter, no less. Following the target, instead of leading it. Lots of fun. Just at targets at sea; no people.

| GN, those Ruger #1's had a good barrel on them, but yeah, the .250 is a pretty hot cartridge right from the factory. If someone hasn't been stuffing 4000 FPS hand loads through it it should be OK for a few more rounds. Might lose a little, but should still punch a 3/4" hole with 3 shots at 100 yds. I used a .243 for all my varmint hunting for so many years (market hunted coyotes and bobcat). That Rem. 700 BDL Varmint took over 2000 rounds of pretty hot (but accurate!) hand loads before I ever replaced it with a Douglas Premium barrel in 1979. Sold that rifle to buy my 2nd wife's wedding ring...turned out to be the worst trade I could have made. Pappy...have fun out there today and be safe! Hope you bring some target pics back with ya! ISO

| The 22-250 is a tack driver! Bullet hole in bullet hole at 100 yds off a bench rest. The 7X57 needs the scope lapped BAD! The .308 is shooting 1/2 MOA @ 100yds off bench rest. Not bad for off the shelf ammo. I am really impressed with that .250 its a keeper for sure. It seems to like 31.5 gr. of IMR 3031 with a 52 gr. BTHP Speer. The only thing I don't like is someone hacksawed off part of the barrel (Idiot) for some reason. A new crown and it will be fine, even though it shoots great it looks like crap. I will trade off the 7 Mouser, never been a real big fan. | ||||||||
