Here's an article I read recently. It pertains to the Amsterdam's attempt to clean up its image.

They want to romve the prostituion/Cannabis shops there.

Stocking up on "supplies" may be a good idea.....If so inclined.

Their thought is...If they cleanup the types of tourists going to the Dam....They'll end up with more people (families) coming overall.

They claim nobody notices all the historical architecture because they're too busy gettin hiugh and chasin' tail.

This is similar to what Las vegas did back in the late 80's.

They know they are going to take a financial hit initially after they shut things down...but they think in the long run it'll be worth it.

I think it sucks.

i too think it sucks
i have had many friend go there get high chase tail and take in all the archtectre, history and country side.

HMM, why the sudden change? Have they put new people in office or something?
If they take the cannabis shops away, what will they do? I mean that is the one major thing they are known for, because thats Amsterdam! Are they kidding themselves? More people comin over to see architecture as opposed to killer bud? I dont think so.

well they changed a lot there in th past 15 years, the past 20 or so years the netherlands been drifting again to the right conservative corner. 1997 no new coffee shop can open up. only the old can stay - and those they close with any need handy such as "too many cycles in front" (anyone ever been to holland - did and there are cycles all over the place, but never to many in front of a shop!) "too many people walkin by""too much smoke""smoke ban for bars" and such shit. things turning worth again for personal freedom and rights here in europe - this gonna be Orval's night mare!
