Anytime while my kids where "tweens" (9 to 12) and older, I would force them to watch anything about this type of thing on TV. To scare them and to make them realize it only takes once to make a baby. When my daughter told me (yes, she told me) she and her boyfriend where getting close, I sent them all types of links on teen sex, birthcontrol, std's, etc etc and made sure they both read them. It was a way in this internet world for me to be removed and not embarress them, but to also make sure they knew the responsibility this entailed. It is a big one. And then I got my daughter on the pill. I know, permissive? I just think I am a realist. Parents HAVE to be. If you have teens and where ever one, then you know whatever your parents tell you goes in one ear and out the other. It is our job to protect our kids the best we can, however that is. And denial never ever works. I have seen too many lives ruined by denieing the facts and the reality of a situation. And don't foreget everyone, this generation is dealing with diseases our generation never heard of like AIDS, clomidia, herpes, etc etc. And it just takes once to get these things. Isn't it smarter to protect and educate rather than deal with the outcome of being an ostriche and burieing our heads in the sand?
Peace

crazy world.. or not. its only in this last century or so that this sort of thing has really begun to shock us... before that it was more or less normal...
but you are right J, education is the way to go. it does only take once, for a whole lot of things

yea it was crazy about 10-15 years ago... seriously, out of our whole little circle of friends growing up, i think im the only one who didnt knock up some chick in highschool. And im pretty sure that was just luck of the draw.
I guess it dependes on maturity, i mean, 13 is just rediculous, but a few friends of mine who had kids at a very young age turned out just fine with a happy family, sad to say a few friends of mine also could not provide for due to a drug addiction or something. Its quite inevitable growing up inner city boston style, Ive had my runs, hell im still trying to shake off a lingering habit from back when..
I just hope for the best for the both of them, mabye it was meant to be. im not a religous freak but i do believe things happen for a reason.
hey moonbiscut.... " they call me ishmael, and mobys music sucks. smile if you get it. "
i dont get it... but im still smiling!

They don't even get a chance to enjoy the fun of being a teenager. Now they have a lot of responsibility on their shoulders at a young age. Many regrets will be in their future.

I beg to differ. Kids these days are not Innocent, hell, my daughter taught me a few words I never knew. With tv and the Internet and the fast paced world we live in, no, innocent is not the word I would use to describe kids today.
In fact, they know TOO much. I know my daughter has friends that have died through suicide. Also through being knifed or shot. And some that have survived cancer and others that cut them selves, others with eating disorders. Many of her friends have seen phyciciatrists or other mental health professionals. And she is a country kid, not an inner city kid. She knows what abuse is, all kinds.
No, unfortuantly, no, they are not innocent....I might be but they aren't.

15 years old and it could be 1 of 8 sexual partners? Who's in charge of watching this kid? Someone must have had a clue about her life. Really sad.
