Default ~New Cd Review! Dragonforce - Ultra Beatdown~

Alright i know there are a lot of older folks that might not be into the new standard of music. I myself can't stand the mtv generation and im supposed to be a part of it...
There are however a random few, that actually make there music for the simple art of showcasing there talents. As opposed to the majority of money hording E major whiners! I suppose, I can't really discredit them for doing what they love, but I don't grasp the concept of a simple string of boohoo's over a 3 chord progression.
One of the more recent bands to surface in the past couple years has been a favorite of mine - Dragonforce! Not only do they raise the bar for all standards of what is god like. But they can do what no other band at the present has learned. They can actually make a song with the rhythm guitar using only a few chords, but make it SOUND GOOD!!!
If you are as sick of hearing the same crap on the radio day in and day out, and you are into the more heavy metal scene i suggest you pick up there new cd "Ultra Beatdown". They cover more than just fast licks and screaming solos, some of the songs have a couple break down sections that are quite melodic. Then of corse it's kicked into overdrive with a solo so fast you couldn't even try to pick it apart note for note. Good luck trying to even guess the scale they are using LOL.
All in all, if you are in the mood for some music as uplifting as a milked 2 footer of sativa i highly recommend this new album.

~5 stars~

giggles...

i support dragon force and their music. it's actually good and has replay value although I must admit some of their songs sound very identical which is pretty crazy in a sense seeing as their songs are so complex but somehow they still managed to do it.

All in all a great band and they have some pretty sick videos. "Through the fire and the flames" is probably a song that new comers should hear first before diving into the rest of their music in my opinion. The video for this song has pretty funny parts where they have the two lead guitarists doing solos and they close-up on their fingers and it really makes NO SENSE.

meh Im young and I still dont really like them. I swear I listened to 4 songs atleast and I thought I listened to the same song over and over again...like they overuse the same lyrics, and certain sounds. An when I saw em in concert, they could barely play the songs they made in the studio...not to mention the looping...arghh -just my opinion

v0ss, you are absolutely correct. I'm not like the thousands of fans that act as if there are no comparisons between songs. i have one of there older cds, and the newest cd. they both use the same lyrics (to some extent) and ive even caught them using the exact same scale in a few solos on more than one occasion. the only difference IMHO with dragonforce and the "music" on the radio they call rock (i.e. - Thrice, Avenge Sevenfold, and so on) the guitarists from dragonforce have a talent that cant be matched BY ANYONE. If you ask me Steve Vai is a child compared to them.

So yes they do repeat stuff a lot... but when your literally playing the whole guitar neck in almost every song. . . its kinda hard not to repeat yourself. Another thing is that a lot of dragonforce songs are based on a standard 3 chord progression. however you wouldn't be able to tell at first considering the effort the put towards the strum patterns of those chords.
