I have found that amber trics are much harder to see than clear or cloudy trics and at low magnification 40x you can miss them entirely
In this photo about 100x you can see a cloudy next to a fully amber tric quite clearly.... COOL
at 40x all I could see was sugar ie clear and cloudy white trics
I believe this may be caused because clear and cloudy trics reflect or refract much more light than amber and so seem hidden
don't miss em
also I notice that amber trics are amost ALWAYS of smaller diameter than cloudy...this lead me to believe (my own hypothesis only) that amber is not a sign that it is at peak but rather a sign the peak is over for an individual tric BUT because there are so many trics at different stages amber trics may alow one to judge that ALL trics have had a chance to emerge and develop so that is why we want some amber....Until I learn otherwise I am going to harvest at the first signs of amber NOT half amber as some suggest.
hear is my anaolgy
- clear tric - green banana
- cloudy tric - ripe banana
- amber tric - bruised mushy banana
my wife would rather have a green banana than a bruised one
I would prefer the bruised to the green
both of us like the perfectly ripe banana
please go easy on jokes about my wife and her banana preferences
