The question of legalizing "cannabis/hemp" should not be discussed in slang. The word marijuana was created to create confusion. All the slang names add to confusion.
"Cannabis/hemp" should be used whenever one discusses "cannabis/hemp", not slang man made generic names. Marijuana, pot, weed, Mary Jane, MJ, etc. are *spin*.
"Cannabis" used for the medicinal conversation and "hemp" used for the industrial conversations would change the conversation. Eventually people would stop using slang and deal with reality. Slang makes everyone think of hippies. Everyone who wants to see the laws changed are not hippies, or druggies.
One voice would speak volumes. Using the actual names "Cannabis/hemp" every time one speaks of the plant would go a long way to bring the conversation back to reality. Slang, disinformation names will not work to get "cannabis/hemp" legal. By using slang one perpetuates the drug underground culture of drugs.
"Cannabis/hemp" really is more than a drug for dysfunction. "Cannabis/hemp" has been used throughout history. Marijuana, weed, pot, pot heads, Mary Jane, have been used since prohibition. We want change, not prohibition. We must change the way we discuss it.
The most important thing for change is to start changing the way we talk about it. Refrain from using the terms which make it mysterious. "Cannabis/hemp" has history, it's not a mystery. Correct individuals who use slang. Guide the conversation to the proper names "Cannabis/hemp".
Yes, I am trying to get back into your heads. Create better pictures in your mind of people using for whatever reasons, Cannabis. Then use the words in conversation that reflect your mental picture. Just a little something to make ya tap your temple and say hmmmmm.

When I first got my card the folks were very specific about calling it cannabis or medicine. I can understand their point.

They stressed don't call it pot, weed, grass, etc.

In my converstations with many people it has been referred to as MJ, for recreational marijuana and MMJ for medical marijuana. I here what you are saying, Nim, and yes, it is a good thought and something we should consider. I never thought of it quite like that. It is good to get a new perspective on things in life.

While I'll agree with the need to use less slang when refering to cannabis, and I try to use the term medicine/medication/medicated and cannabis hemp when talking to the general public about it. 25 years of getting high/stoned/loaded on pot/weed/herb makes it difficult to change quickly....especially when you're stoned......I mean medicated

well.. that depends.. i dont medicate... i get high... so its cannabis... but to not call it pot, well.. i understand the argument, but well.. it looses flavour, hehehe

The reason I was given when I got my first card was that by using terms that sounded more "medical" true mm users would sound more legit then somebody trying to score off the streets.

only sometimes.. blazing is for the yungunns, i toke.. nice and slowly i do it now.. hehehe
and i no longer get ripped either... i have come to understand the different subtleties and nuances of the different stones... hehehe stone is good for me now... heheh
